Whenever a cult leader sets himself up as God's infallible wingman, here on Earth, lock away the kids. Which is why I'd like to tip off law enforcement to an even larger child-abusing religious cult. Its leader also has a compound, and this guy not only operates outside the bounds of the law, but he used to be a Nazi and he wears funny hats. That's right, the Pope is coming to America this week and ladies, he's single!

Comedian Bill Mahr took the Pope to task, reaped criticism from the Catholic League, and apologized -- sort of.

Religion should be treated with ridicule, hatred, and contempt

This is Christopher Hitchens on Free Speech. This is the tail end of twenty minute speech given in Canada in November 2006.

The reason I am posting this video here is because I would like to point out that Hitchens does not advocate hating Christians, Muslims, or other religious people. It is religion itself that he says should be hated.

I think that hating individuals because they are infected with religious delusion is just as bigoted as hating people who are infected with a disease, or who are ignorant, or who are mistaken about something...

Atheism is inspired by one thing most of all: honesty with yourself. If you look at ALL of the evidence and make an honest decision without clouding your judgment with fear, guilt, love, duty, or anything else, you will come to one logical conclusion: There are no gods. Even if there were, they have made no contact with humans or even claimed to exist at all. The only evidence there is, supports the conclusion that gods are fictitious and no more likely to exist than elves, fairies, gnomes, trolls, ogres, goblins, sprites or pixies.

.: posted Monday, December 03, 2007 :::

Christopher Hitchens
is widely-published polemicist and frequent radio and TV commentator and contributing editor to Vanity Fair and a visiting professor of liberal studies at the New School. In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's "Why I Am Not a Christian" and Sam Harris's recent bestseller, "The End of Faith," Hitchens makes a case against religion in "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything." With a close reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which he believes religion is a cause of dangerous sexual repression and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos, and frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life and University Book Store in Seattle.
