Why I cannot honestly call myself a Christian
.: posted Saturday, March 22, 2008 :::
By Ian
Introductory remarks
This document sets out some arguments that question the truth of contemporary evangelical Christianity. It has been written largely for the benefit of the author but also to communicate to friends and family in a dispassionate and non confrontational way some of the rationale for no longer adhering to fundamentalist Christianity. It is almost all my own words but I have used material from the Internet in some places.
I want to start with a challenge to the Christian who may read this. The challenge is as follows:
- Think of all the people and belief systems residing outside your church.
- Try, against all the odds, to read this as a “juror” and not a “defendant”
- Remember the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes.

Was Jesus wrong? Examining the justice of a perfect God

Where do atheists and non-believers go?
That's a question that seems to be universally answered in all religions. The answer? You probably know it. Those who do not believe, no matter how good they are, go to hell, where they suffer for eternity for their idiotic and selfish choices while on earth. Pretty much every non-liberal Christian theologian, such as Billy Graham and Greg Laurie, says that those who don't believe in Jesus are in for an eternity of suffering.

My history of cinema teacher is now damned to hell
.: posted Thursday, December 07, 2006 :::

A few hours ago, my history of cinema teacher, according to fundamentalist doctrine, cemented her place in hell for all eternity. She is now, according to doctrine, damned for eternity, condemned to a place of eternal pain, torture, and, if you believe it, fire. She will be eternally separated from God, never again to see her loved ones, to see her friends or family.

Jesus...f*** you

Hi Jesus.
Jet me start out by saying F*** you. Yeah, that's right. F*** you. F*** you uncle f***er. What the f***? you ask. Allow me to explain. After careful consideration and a lot of thinking, I have come to the conclusion that you, as presented in the bible and your followers, are a f***er.

Saying Goodbye

A few years ago, I was reading a strategy guide for the video game Dino Crisis and came across a quote near the back of the book. In the section of the game, the main character is fleeing a tyrannosaurs rex and has to fire grenades into it's face to slow it down. At the end of the section, the book says "After three or four grenades to the face, he'll (the T-rex) come to understand that some partings are inevitable, that even fleeting friendships help you grow as an individual, and that Regina's (the protagonist) haste to leave Ibis island is in no way a rejection of him personally."

Joy in tribulation

Recently, a Billy Graham tract arrived in my mailbox called "Joy in tribulation". Looking through it, I chuckled at some of what it said.
While I may not personally agree with Mr. Graham's approach to spirituality, I must admit that he is dedicated to his views and his ideas. But then again, so am I.
With that in mind, I decided to…ahem…adapt and rewrite his own brochure into something new, in the vein of my own views. Here is the end result.

Dreams are interesting things. Sometimes they're random, sometimes they're cool. Sometimes they can bring us happiness, and sometimes they can bring us crushing despair.
But sometimes...they can have a message or two to bring us.

"…It's too bad that you're going to Hell…"
"…Hope you enjoy your special place in HELL…"
"…Hope you have an asbestos suit, cause you're going to HELL…"
It's 2:40 in the morning on June 16th, 2006. I'm sitting in front of my computer, my eyes weary, my legs sweaty, and my heart and mind heavy with anger.
What a lousy way to end your first day of being twenty years old.

A letter to Jesus

Earlier this year, I was getting a bit fed up with religions and Christianity in general. It was a period where I was in the last stages of breaking off from organized religion, and as one can expect, it’s a difficult process.
At one point, I finally just got so fed up that I decided to do a little rant to try and get the frustration out of my system. This is the result:

If you died this minute, went to heaven and met God, what do you think God would ask you?
Would God ask you if you are a Christian?
Would God ask if you if you accepted Jesus?
Would God ask you if you went to church on Sundays?
Or…what if God asked you none of these things? What if God asked you something else?

The Day of Judgment
.: posted Wednesday, May 03, 2006 :::
sent in by Ian
When I was a Christian, one of the most frightening and intimidating aspects of the faith was the dreaded judgment day, where God (or Jesus, depending on who you speak too) will judge you and send you to either heaven or hell for all eternity. What better way to keep someone in line by threatening them with a judgment?
Because I am no longer a Christian, I no longer believe in a day of judgment. In fact, I find the whole idea to be very juvenile. If you go through life seeing it as a trial, then the view of a judgment makes sense. If you go through life seeing it as an opportunity to learn and grow to become a better individual, the idea of a day of judgment becomes...well...silly.

Leaving Christianity to find God, life, and love

When I was an infant, my parents made a decision that has led me to this day, typing these words in this box on this site. They made a decision that was going to decide my fate in terms of religious matters, and they had no idea just how powerful that decision was.
They decided that they were not going to raise me in any particular faith, that I was free to choose whatever faith I wanted.
I am so grateful to them for making this decision.

I've been hanging around here lurking for a few days and thought it was about time to introduce myself. Although I¡¦m English, I now live and work in beautiful Sweden (why is a long story which I might go into another time). I guess my story follows a familiar pattern which many here will recognise.

Jesus, the World's Biggest Lie

I was not born into a Christian home. Quite the contrary. I was born into an abusive household with heroin addicts for parents. My biological father was a Japanese immigrant who was never there, and when he was there, he beat the shit out of me. My biological mother was also guilty of this. It was common place for my mother to burn me with cigarette butts, or to beat me within an inch of my life. My sister was born when I was but 3 years old. Since my biological mother was too busy shooting up dope to take care of us, we usually went without food. Most of the time we wouldn't have electricity. One year later, at the age of 4, after more abuse and hospital visits, the State stepped in and took me and my sister out of the house.
