Very nice presentation. From the Stone Age to Feudal Age, and decreasingly from then through the Information Age, it probably made good sense to make a virtue of the necessity of human suffering. Ascribing it to fate or god's will, probably has kept billions of people from depression and hopelessness in the face of their limits. Genetic enhancement, nano technology, and all of the amazing technologies to come increase human control to alleviate or eliminate suffering. Ignoring that capacity is an increasingly unethical proposition.

The religiously based proposition that we should still leave things to god's will is like suggesting we should drive the car with our eyes closed.
