Who is to blame?
.: posted Monday, April 30, 2007 :::

By Dave, the WM

The Virginia Tech shootings are fading from the major media's short-lived stage, but Christian rhetoric is continuing to lay the blame for the tragedy at the feet of non-theists.

Atheism has become very popular in universities--where it's taught that we evolved from animals and that there are no moral absolutes. So we shouldn't be surprised when there are school shootings. -- Kirk Cameron

If you're not familiar with Jack Chick's comic-style evangelical tracts, then these little videos might go over your head. However, for the rest of us, "Depart from ME ye cursed!"

Always remember, Jesus loves you more than you can possibly comprehend. But, if for any reason whatsoever you don't come to accept the correct version of Christianity while still breathing air, then that loving god-man is going to make you suffer the most horrific and demented fate ever conceived. There will be no chance of parole or escape. You will not even be allowed to die. You will be tormented and tortured forever.

Even as a Christian, I was surprised at the blurring of the distinction between Christianity and the American concepts of “Rights.”

I've been a proud atheist for well over 10 years now (I'm 26) but I can still recall the very moment that the penny dropped. Whilst I remember it vividly, I'm not sure of my age but I'd have been 9 or 10. I was stood in a cold stone church on a sunday morning when I wanted to be playing football or cricket and the dour and obedient congregation were going through the usual brain-washed call-and-response chanting...

The tragedy and a question

After reading umpteen letters written by both local and distant writers of
apparently deep faith about the tragedy of Virginia Tech, I decided it was
time for a view from one without this mysterious faith. I am dumbstruck by
some of the statements from these people of deep faith. According to almost
all of these writers, faith is the best thing anyone could ever possess,
because it's just so much better than common sense or logic. Whatever life
has to offer, including tragedies beyond measure, these writers want all of
us to believe that without faith we don't have anything to help us cope.

Something I've noticed a lot lately is the contradictory attitude towards "God's creation" in many Christians. Part of this realization was a result of my wife's influence in my life. Recently I've also come to realize that most (if not all) of Christianity is also a hoax.

The atheist's wager

I have been an atheist since I was twelve years old. Most of my friends are atheists too, so sometimes I forget that most people have a belief in God. I’m not much for political correctness and rarely censor myself, but I don’t go around provoking religious people. There is very little to be gained by arguing with those who have faith. Their beliefs cannot be proven and they are not going to believe me regardless of my arguments against faith. I don’t usually have the time and energy for a senseless disagreement where neither side gains anything but annoyance with each other.

Tenets of your unbelief

By John Fraysse

It really bothers me when I run into Christians, Jews or Muslims who don’t have a clue why they believe what they do. I feel the same way about Atheists, Ex-Christians, Ex-Jews or Ex-Muslims. In my opinion, whether a believer or not, we all should be able to “give a succinct account” of why we think or believe as we do. Crafting a brief “Tenets of Your Belief /UnBelief” might be a useful exercise, especially if it can be stated in a minute or two. Now, I know a statement like, “All Religion is BS”, is very brief and has good summary impact but it’s a bit shallow, even if true, and there must be a few good reasons to support this point of view, so why not delineate them.

.: posted Saturday, April 14, 2007 :::

By Dave, the WM

Evolution is a favorite target of Christians. Evolution, say Christians, is being accepted as fact when in truth evolutionary theory is nothing but a belief that has numerous holes in it. Christians will then focus exclusively on one or two of of these so-called holes, expand upon them, magnify them, and stretch the points beyond all reasonable recognition with the hope of rousing the average believer's emotions. Scientists, who are really just people trying to understand the world we live in, and who have given us modern medicine, amazing inventions, comforts not available to royalty in the past, and even men on the moon, are painted as demonically influenced conspirators bent on eradicating religion from the world in order to usher in a millennial reign of perversity and debauchery.

Human history in all ages is red with blood, and bitter with hate, and stained with cruelties; but not since Biblical times have these features been without a limit of some kind. Even the Church, which is credited with having spilt more innocent blood, since the beginning of its supremacy, than all the political wars put together have spilt, has observed a limit. A sort of limit. But you notice that when the Lord God of Heaven and Earth, adored Father of Man, goes to war, there is no limit. He is totally without mercy -- he, who is called the Fountain of Mercy. He slays, slays, slays! All the men, all the beasts, all the boys, all the babies; also all the women and all the girls, except those that have not been deflowered.

I did not come to my decision to leave the church lightly. It came after much thought and careful study of both the Bible and evidence. The plain fact is that the Bible does not line up against reality or nature. Its origins are dubious and the pages are inconsistent. It does not take a scientist to see that.
