Steve Kreuscher is now named In God We TrustSteve Kreuscher is no more.

A Lake County judge granted permission to the Zion man Friday to officially change his name to "In God We Trust." That's "In God" as a first name and "We Trust" as a last name.

The 57-year-old artist and bus driver was ecstatic about the name change as he exited court Friday.

"I feel great. It's just like, yes!" We Trust said.

The entire process before Judge David Hall took less than two minutes, but We Trust said he was quite nervous.

"I have been praying for this. I didn't want anything to mess this up," he said.

We Trust said the new name more closely represents his devotion to God than "Steve Kreuscher" did.

The process to change his name took roughly three months. Throughout the course We Trust said he was looking for a sign from God that would let him know it was a good idea. He got it one day while adding up the expenses for the name change, which came out to roughly $600.

"I didn't want to use my own money because things are tight," said the father of four. "Three weeks later, I got my (tax) rebate check for $600."

Changing his name to something so out of the ordinary is bound to get mixed reactions from people, especially because of the religious overtones, he said.

"I'm not out to offend anybody. People can call me something different," We Trust said.

We Trust must now go about changing his name on all legal documents. Early next week, he'll visit the Social Security office in Waukegan and then the Secretary of State's office and his bank.

He's already begun signing his artwork with his new moniker, a move that may add value to his work.

"There are billions of artists out there. If you don't do something to stand out in the crowd the world won't recognize you," We Trust said.

There are some really crazy people in this world. Not wanting to use his own money for that crazy name change? *Shaking head* He's a really sad case, esp since he thinks that tax rebate came from "God".

Some people.

First off, this man claiming that God gave him this idea shows borderline schitzophrenia and complete obsession. He actually went through the rigourous process of changing his name, then had to contact all his business affiliations, and all legal documents.

Secondly, standing out? In one week-one year, this man will not be remembered. You got your 15 minutes of fame, pal. Milk it for all it's worth.

Thirdly and lastly, this just shows how far Christians will go to show their devotion to their god. Seems like God's changing his tactics a bit. No longer using genocide; we have name-changers now. Interesting how christians might applaud this effort, yet degrade little girls who want to name themselves after their favourite tween star...

Right. How about Jack Torse?

Isn't it funny how all of his devotion was really just a ploy to "stand out"? what a dumb-ass!
I think I will change my name to "Science Makes More Sense" and I will name my next kid "Wadof Deeinay"

I'm changing mine to Mike Raksmels or maybe something simple like Ben Dover. I like Russian names, too. Maybe.... Wakov Jerkov. Got a nice ring to it. I'll name my daughter Hugh G. Rection. Hmmmm maybe not.

But, let the nut change his name because as Shakespeare once said, a pile of dung by any other name would stink just the same!

I wonder if some time traveller had gone back in time and told the young Steve that he'd be changing his name to InGod WeTrust in the space of 5 short decades, he (Steve) would have been appalled at the prospect of the level he was going to some day sink.

Back when there were Anonymous posters at this site, I always thought that if they didn't pick a username by their 3rd post, the members should get to choose one for them. I've got the same unreasonable urge to give ol' Steve a name of my own choosing right now (he says he doesn't mind). How about Notworth A. Buckanymore.
