News of interest to former Christians

HOUSTON — A youth minister who confessed to the unsolved 1994 killing of a convenience store clerk is being widely forgiven by worshipers at his former church who say they admire his courage to finally surrender to police.

Calvin Wayne Inman, 29, remains jailed without bond since being charged Wednesday with capital murder in the stabbing death of a clerk during an alleged plot to steal cash and cigarettes. He was 16 at the time.

In the first service Sunday at the 800-member Elim Church since Inman was arrested last week, congregants praised the recently ordained minister as a born-again role model taking responsibility for his sin.

"He's a hero, really," said Kelley Graham, 24. "I don't know how many people would do what he did. The Bible says you just need to confess to God. Calvin took an extra step."

Ordained as a minister in November, Inman's admission broke a cold case for police in suburban Pasadena. He went to authorities on Feb. 5, voluntarily giving a statement admitting that he stabbed Iqbal Ahmed, 64, nearly 14 years ago.

According to police, Inman said he and a 13-year-old friend planned to rob the convenience store when Ahmed asked to see identification before giving them tobacco. That's when Inman produced a large kitchen knife and stabbed Ahmed in the chest, police said.

Inman kept his alleged killing a secret before telling Ron Nissen, senior pastor of the Pentecostal church, several weeks ago. Nissen, who said Inman found his way to the church in 1999, encouraged his youth pastor to surrender.

Cries of "Amen" and vigorous applause filled Elim Church on Sunday as Nissen told worshipers that Inman is still beloved by congregants.

Robin Thac's 17-year-old son was active in the youth group that Inman led.

"I am thrilled my son has a role model to accept responsibility the way Calvin has," Thac said. "There are way too many men who don't accept responsibility."

Inman resigned from the youth job in December. Most congregants said they knew he was grappling with something, but didn't know what.

"The debt he's paying to our society is teaching our young people to do the right thing," said Cheryl Ellis, a member of the church's youth staff. "To lock him away someplace and say he owes it to society is robbing the next generation of a mentor."

Police have said they interviewed Inman's friend, now 28, who acknowledged being involved in the robbery but not the stabbing. Relying on 1994 juvenile laws preventing prosecution of people 13 or younger, police said they could not charge the friend.

That's my whole point. A x-tian can commit any crime, including murder, and they are still considered model citizens. Yet there was a recent poll taken and it was determined that this country would not elect an athiest president. This is so fucked up!

The Bible says you just need to confess to God. Calvin took an extra step

That is what scares me. The mentality that if one confesses to god and asks for forgiveness, everything is great.

I agree with Eejay. It is worrisome that a murder who happens to be a christian but still doesn't confess the murder for 14 years, is considered good because he prayed to Jeeesus. But an atheist who has never committed a crime, is considered evil regardless, simply for not holding a god delusion. This is such a screwed up mentality.

Wtf, chuck? The man did a terrible thing and he's being made out a hero. This article makes me sick.

This just pisses me off to no end.

Yeah, he's a real fuckin' hero... Tell that to the family of his victim.

Are we stuck in Bizarro World or something?

You could have just killed ten people in the parking lot and walk into any church with a bible under your arm and say that you love jezus and they will praise you and tell you how wonderful you are, what kind of sick cult are we facing these days? The religious brainwashing cult.

These people are, as we used to say in my rural youth, "All Ate-Up"...

the reason why they want that guy in their church is first: everyone feels less of a sinner compared to him and second its good for public image to be disassociated from medieval Christan practices which is actually closer to the babble. They'll make plenty of money on this one.

could it possibly be that the article is wrong? christians get it wrong. that man is not a hero. interesting his name is inman which means every man. he is not a hero for confessing making him one is wrong. the confessing was between him and God. God gives grace to those who want to receive it. It was through grace that that man is set free, regardless of whether he will now sit in prison. stepping forward take courage. the act of murder is not being applauded. the confession is. he will now pay a very real, tangible consequence for his crime.

Zip,

Stop making excuses.

It's not fair that someone who lived a good life helping others ends up in hell, but a murdering bastard can still go to heaven although he murdered someone.

You think that kind of reasoning is fair?

Anonymous notabarbie said...
That is almost unbelievable.

John from Indiana..."all ate up," that's hilarious!

Zip-I've been reading some of your posts. All I have to say is, "blah, blah, blah."

You all misunderstood. They are not praising this man for the actual murder.

They are praising him for being honest and confessing the murder.

As sad as this is, I'm sure that God will use this in a beautiful way in the long run, because God works all things together for the good of those who love Christ.

We don't always see the bigger picture when disaster in our lives comes. Only God does.

That's why having faith in Jesus is so important when times like that come.

Debbie,

In case nobody has ever told you, I thought you should know that you are a stupid bitch.

STFU!!!!

Debbie,

This guy murdered someone years ago yet has been working in ministry for years and only felt inclined to confess now as a middle aged man. Further, the victim's family has been without a father for years. Yet, there is no mention of sadness for the victim, the victim's family, or of the dangerous reality that a unrepentant murderer has been hiding out as a clergyman.

Nope, all that matters to these moronic Christians is that this bastard finally found enough balls to confess and clear his conscience. And he is only confessing for selfish reasons, so that his mythical god will magically bless him.

Again, there is no mention of recompensing the family's victim. In fact, there is no mention of them at all.

"But he repented!"

Whoop-dee-do.

From the Webmaster of this site:
""But he repented!""

Praise God! He finally admitted what he did, now it's time for him to pay for the consequences of his sin.

You have to learn to forgive others Webmaster.

Like the good book says, "He who is without sin let him cast the first stone."

I've noticed that anytime a christian screws up that non-believers come after that person like a pack of wolves after a carcass.

Troy-boy,

I've noticed that even if a Christian pastor is found guilty of murder, his loyal fan base barely blinks and even celebrates so long as the pastor says he's sorry. Yet, if someone like me simply thinks Christianity is bunk, that's the horror of horrors!

"Praise GOD!"

And again, nothing for the victims. Just praise over a murderer who has been working as a pastor.

Oh, well, arguing with Christians is pointless.

Troy, since you're so big on celebrating when someone obeys GOD, may I please have a ten dollar donation? Jesus did say to give to all who asks, and I'm asking.

Thanks in advance for your glad obedience to your god.

"Troy" bleats: Praise God!

Let me get this straight---we should "praise" a being who evidently believes that someone's "free will" takes precedence over someone's life? Really?....we should extol a being who would idly sit by and watch someone get murdered in cold blood, all because the muderer's "free will" is more important? If you belief that, you've got serious problems, pal.

Troy: He finally admitted what he did, now it's time for him to pay for the consequences of his sin.

There's no such thing as "sin", dufuss. If "killing" were a "sin", then killing in self-defense would also be a "sin", as well as punishable like a "sin". Neither is the case, however. There's a sound reason for that, and that is that morality(i.e..what is "ethical") isn't determined by any "Divine" God, or set of "Commandments". If I'm wrong, then you need to get your little Christian a$$ down to Walmart next Sunday, and start pelting the employees with rocks.

Webmaster,

If you lived near me I would do more than just that.

I would be more than glad to not only give you ten dollars, I believe in going an extra mile like the bible teaches.

I would give both you and Boomslang Ten dollars each, and I would treat both of you to a big steak dinner with all the trimmings.

Blogger .:webmaster:. said...
Troy,

You can give me the ten dollars by clicking on the PayPal button or do it anonymously through the Amazon button. You have no problem posting on this site, so I would have to assume you live in an industrialized society.

I am asking for ten dollars and you are refusing to give it to me for no reason. You, Troy, are a disobedient servant and you will receive many stripes. Thanks for the empty platitudes about what you would do if... You have demonstrated what most of us reading this already know: Christians are full of talk, but when comes to something that might cost them something, they are full of shit.

Anonymous troy said...
You'll be surprised if I actually do it won't you?

I bet you don't expect me to pay you ten dollars.

Blogger .:webmaster:. said...
No Marc, I don't expect you to obey your god. You are full of hot air, just like these brain-dead people who praise a pastor for confessing to murder, but are thoughtless for the victim or his family.

You really don't get as to WHY this story is a big deal, do you? What you are witnessing is damage control in the church. This is potentially very bad publicity for that church. They hired a murderer as a minister. There was no warning from god. The administration of this church didn't have one drop of mystical discernment. The young people could all have been considerable danger... The list goes on of the kinds of things that are probably running through at least some people's minds.

So, people may leave the church. And, new people may stay away from this church. And the more people attending, the more money that comes in. Because face it, Marc, not every Christian gives 10%. Not every Christian obeys when it costs something. Christians love to talk and feel, but most don't like to pay, unless it really makes them feel really good.

Having a murderer for a pastor doesn't make people feel good.

So, we'll whip up the crowd into a frenzy of praise and forgiveness. Everyone feels great! A horribly bad PR story is turned into a story of forgiveness and healing. Fewer people leave the church, and curiosity seekers show up as visitors. The money keeps rolling in, and everyone is happy.

Anyway, where's my ten bucks, Marc?

Webmaster,

I don't know who you got me mixed up with, but my name is Troy. Not Marc. You seem to call all christians who post on here by the name Marc for some reason.

I already sent you your ten dollars. It was sent anonymously.

Blogger .:webmaster:. said...
Marc is a Christian troll whose writing style strikingly resembles and parallels your own.

Regardless, I've received no anonymous gifts of ten dollars for the past several months.

Don't worry Webmaster.

Check is in the mail.

BTW, I got to see a few posts on here from your alls friend Marc/Unblinded.
He seems like a really neat guy. Good to know that there are other christians who come on this site to show all of you fine folks the love of Christ.

Blogger .:webmaster:. said...
Does the love of Christ include honoring the site purpose and disclaimer of privately owned website?

Please read it, and then keep on topic.

The check's in the mail? Good one.
