The Rev. Gregory Clarke, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, checked in to a federal penitentiary in Atlanta around 8 a.m. Friday morning to begin serving a 21-month sentence for tax fraud.
Clarke walked into prison wearing a Crimson Tide jacket and baseball cap. He made the journey on a chartered bus, accompanied by about 50 church members. Other church members and supporters followed in vehicles.
A federal jury convicted Clarke in July 2007 on charges he filed false income tax returns for 2000, 2001 and 2002. At trial prosecutors said Clarke underreported $110,000 in earned income and schemes to deceive the government about the money.
Clarke has said he was singled out because of his friendship with former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, who is serving a prison sentence after he was convicted on seven corruption-related counts by a federal jury in Montgomery in 2006.
Here is a video taken before the bus departed for Atlanta. Clarke tells reporters and supporters that he is ready to report and has the items he needs for a "camping trip."

Why is it that anytime someone who claims to be a christian makes a bad decision that gets them into trouble that you atheists have to start posting videos on here to make all christians look bad just because of a few bad apples in the barrel?
Do you think all christians act this way? Why do you have to make all of us look bad?
Not all christians act like this, and some of us actually do live Holy lives for Jesus.
Amy...why are you on our boards to begin with? Shouldn't you be out witnessing to people who really want to hear your message. You ain't going to convrt anyone here. But to answer your question, when a high profile pastor/preacher messes up it is interesting because these same blow hards try to use your christ to line their own pockets, and yet trash us, because we don't believe in it. We get harassed and treated as lesser than animals, but with these preacher folk, it's like they have a carte blanche or something. They try to take over our political offices and change our laws to suit the x-tian belief system. I am tired of x-tianity being forced down my throat, and so when I see a blowhard fall, I can't help but chuckle.
Well honestly Amy (and other xians out there), it would be GREAT to see a Xian (any xian) do something good for a change. You are living a holy life for Jesus. Great! You haven't murdered, cheated or stolen. Awesome. Anything else to report?
Have you called over unbelievers to your home? Not to preach but just to accept them? Can you skip church for one day and spend the time with your kids instead? Can you stop scaring kids into believing an eternity of hellfire awaits them when they die, probably from persecution? I have a bucketload of Xian friends who do shit, and just sit on their butts and preach to the choir and pray. That is tantamount to throwing golf balls into the ocean.
This site is not to pick on individual christians. (And how dare you call a fellow believer a bad apple?? Shame on you.) It's to show that you guys are just the same as us. You don't have special powers, or abilities to hear God or understand him.
You are just the same as us. The only difference is that you believe in a fairy tale because someone fed you those lies. You cannot think critically because you have been brainwashed, just like we were.
So go ahead and post something good that a Xian did today. We are waiting.
Amy said: Why is it that anytime someone who claims to be a christian makes a bad decision that gets them into trouble that you atheists have to start posting videos on here... ---
So called "True Christians", claim that the Holy Spirit resides inside each of them. If this magical claim is reality, then these so called 'saved' folks should mirror this holy spirit and be unable to commit serious crimes/abuse etc..
The fact that we see they can act so un-godly (and so often in the news), tells us plenty about this holy spirit from your mythical god creature, being nothing but a mind-delusion to the believer. That doesn't even speak to those who use religion solely to scam their followers, for profit etc..
Now Amy, if you think we should ignore such events from the media here, then you won't mind ignoring the rest of the secular crimes committed in society; including when such crimes directly affect yourself and your family, right?
Questions Amy?
ATF (Who wonders if the piece of the holy ghost that resides inside these bad xtians, will also have to go to hell with their stained souls?)
Good evening ATF. On another note regarding Amy's comment. If someone were to commit a crime, and there were two suspects. One is an athiest and the other a x-tian. They go to court and the x-tian does the hand on the bible and the athiest does not. Who's testimony is going to be believed? That's why it is important to publicize that they too, are capable of criminal activity!
I love these kinds of stories; not just because of the perverse pleasure I get seeing a hypocrite exposed, but it also shows that religion and morality are not the same thing.
And Amy, we try to make all christians look bad, because you are all dupes, who pay shysters like this guy to do nothing but fill your head with stupidity and primitive nonsense.
You live a holy life for Jesus? What does that mean? You bury your head in the sand in the face of science, since science disproves almost everything in the bible. Do you hate your mother and father as Jesus commanded? Do you keep silent in church and only ask your questions of your husband at home? It is shameful for women to speak in church. For that matter, are you submissive to men, being that the bible claims you are second-class by nature of your gender? No? So what is so holy about your life?
Charity? Compassion? We do that too. But we do not do it for recognition of some sky wizard who we fear may punish us.
You are a stupid, small minded bitch, who really should keep her mouth shut.
it's not us who make those christians look bad. They make themselves look bad. A question for you: how come you chrisitans support those who molest children, just because they happen to be your pastors? That is close to hiding the crime and with that, many have made themselves guilty of it too.
Maybe the reason why we publish this is to show that chrisitans do not behave like they are expected to. And by the way, christians are in no way, form or fashion better, or different, from the non-believers. They have the same temptations, commit the same crimes, lie just as often, and obviously, molest children just as much, and have the same number of gay people. But you know what? The difference that I personally see between the people that I know that are chrisitan and the people that I know that are atheists, is that I can have better and more intelligent conversations with the atheists. Time and time again, I find the christians to be closedminded, worried about my soul, just "having" to pray for me (even if I tell them that it bothers me, they don't care), or unable to understand life, and certainly unable to discuss a lot of things from a neutral standpoint, because they don't have the ability to be neutral. Every little thing in their lives has to be somehow looked at from the biblical or godly angle or viewpoint. Sometimes it is pointless to even try and have a conversation with them. I guess it all ends up with them feeling sorry for me because I don't believe in their invisible friend, and me feeling sorry for them, because they have to believe in that kind of stuff, like little children do. And by the way, if you read a book about child development, you will find that children believe in invisible things, afterlives and the belief that someone controls everything that happens, from the hurricane to the lightbulb suddenly burning out. I, however, am an adult and capable of critical thinking and reasoning, and do not need these childish beliefs. And one more thing: public schools do teach children to use critical thinking and science (based on provable facts). Have you ever wondered why schools do that? I mean, why use critical thinking, if all we need is belief in a god and reading the bible. Blind faith is good enough, and of course, nobody would ever take advantage of us if we are gullible. Unless god lets that happen of course. Do you actually ever, ever, ever see something in your belief that doesn't make any sense? Like the diseases? suffering? A three year old child getting raped and killed? Kids getitng abused for years? Mass murderers? Tsunamis? September 11 (or do you believe that's because there are gay people in America)? Of course, I am sure you never have doubt in your belief system, sicne it pretty much forbids it. If it wasn't for scientists pushing against religion and against religious people trying to get them killed, we still would sit here and pray over our ouchies, rather than have anesthesia, penicillin, pain medications (especially during childbirth), surgeries, cures for cancer and the pest, etc. Do you have children? If they get sick, do you pray over them rather than use a doctor?
eejay wrote: If someone were to commit a crime, and there were two suspects. One is an athiest and the other a x-tian. They go to court and the x-tian does the hand on the bible and the athiest does not. Who's testimony is going to be believed? ---- Good point eejay.
As I recall from history it used to be required that one swear (to god) to tell the truth, while placing one's hand on his holy book. While I haven't seen this ritual used in the courts in my State lately, you do have a point where I'm sure no atheist would have been believed in the court systems that did require this little ritual.
Not to mention, the nutso xtians would probably have put him/her in jail for some lame reason, just because they didn't believe in this invisible gawd.
Also, you do have to wonder if one was guilty of DOING some crime with god having watched one do that crime, then why would one have any fear of lying about it in-front-of-god's big-bad-scary-book.
It's really simple. You lie through your teeth and ask for forgiveness later...piece of cake, right.
ATF (Who has to laugh at the whole concept of sin, and then begging for forgiveness later)
Amy: Why is it that anytime someone who claims to be a christian makes a bad decision that gets them into trouble that you atheists have to start posting videos on here to make all christians look bad just because of a few bad apples in the barrel?
like white on rice....
Amy,
As pointed out to you, Christians don't need any help in the area of "looking bad". Further, for us to attempt to make "all christians look bad" would actually defeat the premise, which is, there are "good" and "bad" people from every religious, or non-religious affiliation.... including, um, you Christians. Yes, some Christians are "good" people, however, again, the point is that this is not because they are being guided by any "spirit".
ATF Said: "So called "True Christians", claim that the Holy Spirit resides inside each of them. If this magical claim is reality, then these so called 'saved' folks should mirror this holy spirit and be unable to commit serious crimes/abuse etc..

THIS IS WHAT CHRISTIANS SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR GOD WHEN THEY PRAY:
Psalm 22: 'My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?'
OTHERWORDS, XTIANS SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR GOD:
"Dear Jesus, Why have you forsaken us by not filling our lives with your Holy Spirit so that we can live Godly lives that reflect you? Why are you not showing yourself to be more real to others Jesus?"
That should be the christian's prayer to their Sky Daddy. God/Jesus has truly forsaken them. They are just too stupid to figure it out.
What christians should be asking wrote: "Dear Jesus, Why have you forsaken us by not filling our lives with your Holy Spirit so that we can live Godly lives that reflect you? Why are you not showing yourself to be more real to others Jesus?" -- Hi WCSBA,
Oh I know the answer to this one, ah huh.
See, it's not gawds fault that they 'backslide' and commit crimes and such. Oh No, it's all cause of the super powerful devil that gets control over them (when god is snoring I suppose). Don't you know the devil is far more powerful, than god's presence on this little earth.
They say the devil speaks into our minds so easily and LOUD, but at the same time, we have to be really quiet (and mindless) in order to hear their god speak to us. That alone tells me that their devil would win the arm-wrestling contest with god.
ATF (who wonders if they will televise this contest or not)
ATF Said: "ATF (who wonders if they will televise this contest or not)"
I think they should televise it on TBN, then again I know that will never happen, because christians believe in Censorship, and they won't allow anything on their TV Networks that they consider to be negative when it comes to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In other words, Christians don't like their faulty lies to be exposed, and for the truth to be known that Christianity is overrated, and is a flat out bald faced lie.
Happy Sunday morning, one and all! Thanks for the early morning laugh, you guys are hilarious.
On a more serious note...
I think we need to take another look at what Amy said. She posited, "Why is it that anytime someone who claims to be a christian makes a bad decision that gets them into trouble that you atheists have to start posting videos on here…" I would like us to put the emphasis on the word "claims." Ah hah! See? These people just "claim" to be christians, 'cause they couldn't possibly be true christians, like Amy is, because otherwise they would be living “holy lives for Jesus”.....ha!ha! ha! .…case closed.
And you atheists are supposed to be tolerant? Yet, look at the way you treat and disrespect christians. That's not being tolerant of others, nor is it showing love. Atheism sure isn't about love. Most of the posts on here prove that. I see nothing more than bitterness and anger among most of the posts on here from atheists. Even when a christian has not posted on here, all most of you know how to do is sit here and criticize and make harsh and mean remarks about every single christian.
You atheists criticize us about not being tolerant? What about all of you? You judge all of us based on a few bad apples. That is not fair.
Based on some of the hateful remarks some of you have left on here towards me it just proves one thing.
There is no love nor tolerance from atheists either. So don't go around criticizing christians for not showing tolerance. Until all of you stop posting hate messages and bashing the rest of us, will you continue to prove that atheism is not about love and tolerance.
Now go ahead and act tough and macho with your curse words. It takes a really big and tough individual to do so.
"As I recall from history it used to be required that one swear (to god) to tell the truth, while placing one's hand on his holy book. While I haven't seen this ritual used in the courts in my State lately, you do have a point where I'm sure no atheist would have been believed in the court systems that did require this little ritual."
Here in the state of Washington, A couple of years back I was called for jury duty. At the beginning of the case and throughout, not once did I see a bible and god was not even mentioned. That was good to see!
Amy, I many places in this country (USA)exspesally in the bible-belt atheists or people in non christian religions stand to lose jobs if they are open about what they belive. Thankfully there are also places in this country where it doesn't happen. But being a christian does NOT make a person good. Being an atheist does not make a person good. It is the choises we make as individulals. And when people stand behind those who who commit crimes it is just disgusting. The reason this stuff is shown is because the people who claim to be on the "moral high ground" and are "born again" do this stuff just as much as anyone else. Which shows thier claims are false. I personally do not hate christans, but i do hate a religion that binds and blinds so many.
Personally, I don't hate x-tians. I hate the way the act out on those of us who don't share your belief system. A lot of you run around prying into our private lives, making it your business to see that we hear god's word and get saved. Many of you don't know how to take 'no' as a answer. Instead you want to force us to believe as you do, place your bible's everywhere, and base all of this country's laws on your outdated system. If you could just understand, WE REJECT THE BELIEF IN YOUR GOD, and then let it go, and go about your own life as you choose. We also REJECT THE BELIEF IN SATAN, so please don't say we worship satan. He is also a figment of your imagination. Why don't you study your bible a little more, maybe you'll see how much in there is horrible. Have a great day!
Amy: "Yet, look at the way you treat and disrespect christians."
I personally detest any individual or belief system that promotes ignorance as a virtue, and stands proud when they suggest, god only knows, and that's all we need to know, as the answer to life and everything within, to include their very behavior, etc.
I don't tend to classify people by their "religious" belief system, so that I can categorically reject them.
However, I use the standard of ignorance & hypocritical behavior, to determine which individual(s), I would be comfortable intellectually interacting with. I have found that there are "few" (if any) people I would enjoy associating with that are religious.
I don't limit that standard to just Christians, it just so happens, that the majority of closed-minded people I have met, are Christian or of some other religion. That doesn’t discount those of non-belief, but, I have found that it’s easier to open channels of communication between non-believers, and those who hold religious affiliation.
There have been a few threads of late that seem to tease knowledge as a topic of interest. We all have differing levels of knowledge, so I don’t care to explain the nuances and what makes one more capable of accumulating knowledge than another. However, I will say this; if a Christian is measured by their belief in the bible, then they have to accept that their God portrays “knowledge” as early as “Genesis” to be the downfall of humanity.
Whether a Christian understands their bible or not, doesn’t make the Christian doctrine any less distasteful in my “interpretation” of Genesis, and for a Christian to suggest they don't understand their bible, while still calling themselves a Christian only billboards their ignorance that much more.
"But they seem to - on average - have better spelling than believers."
I'm not taking up for a christian, however in regards to the complaints about people who don't spell words correctly on this site, it just bugs the living shit out of me anytime someone starts complaining about the way someone spells on here or any other site. Christian or Non-Christian, so what if someone misspells on here once in awhile. Big fucking deal! As long as you know what the person is talking about, who cares if someone doesn't spell every single word 100 percent correct all of the time. Sheesh!
Have any of you ever stopped and realized that sometimes people hit the wrong key, and they don't back up to see their error, because they simply don't feel like doing so? I know I don't do a spell check at times, because I am not going to bend over backwards just to please others or meet the approval of the more "self-superior educated individuals" who post on this site with all of their philosophical bullshit and arrogance. Now that is something that bugs the living shit out of me, and that is people who talk on the high philosophical levels. People who talk like that do so because they feel the need to impress others, and make people think they are superior. It's called having a problem with insecurity IMO. I'm not one bit impressed with people who talk like that.
I also don't live my life to impress others, nor am I impressed with people who talk on a high philosophical level and I am not impressed with people who use high and mighty words.
I personally could give a shit less if people don't like the way I spell sometimes. As long as I can tell what someone is talking about, and that is all that matters. For those of you who feel the need to bitch about the way someone spells, well that's too bad. This is not a perfect world folks.
1. This is a free country. That means people can say and do and think what they want, so long as it does not harm another. Is our criticism of Christianity REALLY hurting anybody? Is it hurting anybody any more than the verses in the Bible that say that ALL non-Christians are worthy of eternal suffering, torment, punishment and pain?
2. If you do not want atheists to criticize Christians, you should probably work on getting rid of those parts in the Bible that declare ALL non-Christians to be worthy of eternal suffering, torment, punishment and pain. ESPECIALLY atheists. That would honestly help a lot.
3. As already pointed out, atheists are only 'supposed to' not believe in a theistic thought system. That means ALL gods. And that DOES NOT MEAN being tolerant.
4. This being a free country, free speech and thought and action so long as it does not harm another IS tolerance. I personally tolerate Christians aplenty; I work with Christians. Some of my best friends are Christians. The same thing goes for nearly every poster on this site. Free speech is not intolerance. Atheism is not a system that preaches intolerance. The application of atheism is up to the individual. For some of us, that means actively working against religious thought. But doing so is not intolerant.
5. The very core of Christianity is a message of intolerance. The very core of atheism is NOT intolerance. While the message of the Bible is, basically, that all non-believers (i.e., those DIFFERENT from Christians) will go to a place of eternal suffering, torment, punishment and pain, the core message of atheism is . . . well, there is no core message. Atheism at its most basic is the idea that theistic thought systems are wrong.
6. When the very core of a message is intolerance, it can only follow that practicioners of that message will be intolerant people. The newsposts on this site are not random, nor are they heavily sought after; the fact of the matter is that corruption amongst Christian leadership is RAMPANT. That is only one aspect of it. Of course there are decent Christians, but their decency has NOTHING to do with Christianity. That leads me to my next point.
7. In high school, I knew a lot of decent white supremacists. Some were firemen, some police officers, and even our town's elected official had official ties to the KKK. Did they mistreat black people and other non-whites outright? In most cases, no; but eventually, ALL white supremacists will mistreat another non-white human being. That is the core of their thought system. The same thing with Christians; eventually, because of your Christian thought system, you will mistreat another person. But in order to be a good and decent person requires NOTHING on the part of Christianity. Because Christianity has nothing to do with being a good or decent person. I can do all of the good things Christians do, and much more, without ever believing in God or Jesus. I can even be nice to Christians. That I recognize their belief system as a vile, evil, twisted, sick, depraved fantasy, does not mean that I cannot be nice to them. But this is not because o my atheism. I am a good and decent person because I have been reared in an environment where I can be a good and decent person, namely one free of religious intolerance. I am working against religious intolerance because I am a good and decent person. The two follow each other.
Sure. But Christians, on average, spell so much wrong, and have such bad grammar, that it is characteristic of them. There's a difference between the common Christian spelling and grammar in these posts, versus the occasional missed key or whatever other malfunction might occur. This is indiciative of their ignorance, not of their slippery fingers.
And who knows, maybe their slippery fingers are an indicator of their guilt?
One more thing; it's 'I could NOT give less of a shit,' not, 'I could give less of a shit'. To say you COULD give less of a shit implies that what you're talking about is not at the top of the not-shit-giving barrel :)
Common Sense said... As long as you know what the person is talking about, who cares if someone doesn't spell every single word 100 percent correct all of the time --- Just thought I'd throw in my two-cents (sense) here.
I have known many who have difficulty with spelling and grammar, both in cyber-space and outside of it. It does seem that most xtians who post here are lacking a proper education in this area.
The inability to spell well alone, isn't really what irks me but rather what irks me, is when I see a xtian post that contain so many misspelt words that are also coupled with an inability to form a coherent sentence. Many times I've read such posts several times and still can't be sure what the poster had intended the message to be.
Sometimes you can gather the meaning of one part of their post, but the rest becomes a jigsaw puzzle of words, to the human eye.
How does one reply to such incoherent post from xtians, assuming one desires to? Should we waste time and space, asking them to repeat their message. Should we ignore them, losing perhaps a chance to pull them partially from their xtian brainwashing. Should we give lessons in English (tongue in cheek there)
For myself, the irritation of such hard-to-read post isn't so much the bad spelling/grammar itself, as it is the fact that this person surely must know they have difficulties in those area's and yet are too lazy to make an effort to make their post coherent to us. I'm sure most users like this, have some form of work processor that they COULD use to make up for their knowledge, but again, they are too lazy to do so evidently.
So again, it's this LAZY factor that ticks me off the most, rather than the fact they can't spell or form proper sentences.
ATF(Who also thinks xtians make up their science facts, like they do their sentences)
Amy: "And you atheists are supposed to be tolerant?"
In a word, no. Because tolerance is a two-edged sword. There are times where intolerance is the correct response, and when dealing with such a dangerously unstable ideology such as Christianity, intolerance is the preferable option.
For instance, Christianity teaches that its adherents (at least the "true" ones, whatever that actually means) have been magically touched by some intangible spirit, and thereby cleansed of their baser natures.
As we have seen time and time again, this is pure, unadulterated rubbish. Not only do Christians continue to behave badly; other Christians are equally untouched by the alleged Holy Spirit and very often wind up as victims of authority figures in their own churches. Embezzlers, sexual predators, even murderers... The people whose mug shots grace the pages of our news thread at Ex-C.
There is also no room for tolerance when the actions of Christians affect non-believers. I personally know a young man from a pagan family who was beat up by his Christian classmates after he refused to participate in a before-school prayer group. And, on an even more personal note, GLBT people in Canada had to lobby long and hard for the right to marry partners of their choice. We won, but it's outrageous that we had to fight that fight at all... Why do people of strong religious belief insist on forcing non-believers to obey the "laws" of the believers' gods?
Amy, I have an assignment for you.
Go out into your community and become an activist for total separation of church and state. Listen to the people adversely affected by Christianity, and help them assert their right to freedom from religion. After you've spent a year or two in the trenches, come back and talk to us. Then, and only then, will I take you seriously when you talk about tolerance and love.

Even better would be to record the abuse she is certain to receive from the hard-core christians, incensed by the notion of separation.
And furthermore, Amy, you stupid fucking, big-mouthed bitch, I refuse to tolerate stupidity and ignorance. You are the embodiment of those traits. Were you home schooled? Don't you have a cousin you should be dating instead of stinking-up our space?
"And furthermore, Amy, you stupid fucking, big-mouthed bitch, I refuse to tolerate stupidity and ignorance."
Thanks for proving my point.
Atheism is all about hatred, and apparently your mom and dad didn't teach you any manners when talking to women.
I assume that you are a man, because that is the way most men talk. They act all big and tough with their foul language. OOOH!!! We're a tough guy with our foul mouth aren't we?
Yes, I probably would, you red-necked bastard. And yes, I do hate people like you.
As it was pointed out, I do not go into churches and tell off anyone, but once you invade my space, I am free to respond in any way I see fit.
And furthermore, I do not talk to women like this in general, only when she shove their way into my front door without welcome and shove their idea's down my throat.
And if there is a hell, great. It would be much better company than spending a single minute, let alone eternity, with obtuse, unquestioning, addle-minded dupes like the two of you.
What did you expect anyway? You must have posted on this site only to cause trouble. Or did you think that we all have been living in darkness, just waiting for some sainted maiden to come along and shower us in god's light? Grow up. If you go where you are not wanted and say things that are not appreciated, then you can not expect to be treated well.
Hey Guys, As much as I agree that Amy is deluded and brain washed and her comments on this forum are generally not wanted, we really need to treat all people with more respect here (notice I said people, not religions). Even though our numbers are growing quickly, recent studies still show that we are the least respected minority in the US. Many people still equate atheism with satan and debauchery. One of the most important jobs we ALL have is to change this ridiculous attitude. Calling people like Amy vile names probably does NOT go a long ways towards this goal. I realize some of these folks can be a real pain in the butt and I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't engage them in debate or even argument. It's just that name calling tends to lower us to the level that the Xtians already think we are. Lets not give tehm this kind of ammunition to use against us. Engage them with intelligence , reason and rationality. These are the attributes we are supposed to possess, Right?
And I doubt very much you'd do shit, if you even exist. Just like you're not willing to do EVERYTHING that the Bible requires of you, you're not willing to do EVERYTHING your wife requires of you. Seeing as how you don't know what any of us are capable of, whether any of us have martial arts training, carry weapons, or are police officers and lawyers, you attempting to hand someone their ass because they gave your wife, if either of you are who you say you are, a good verbal thrashing is a dangerous bet to make. You could become seriously wounded or even killed in the process. Anything you can do in a fight, so can we. Are you willing to face those kind of odds?
So what, you wife can't handle her own business? She has to come running to you every time someone gives her back what she gives out? But like I said, it's uncertain whether you exist or not. But all that's beside the point.
Amy:
Two things are clear:
1. You are losing the argument.
2. You don't even really have an argument.
If either of these were untrue, you'd respond to more posts than just the ones that use cuss words. There are many posts in this thread that are MORE than reasonable, and, ironically enough, you haven't responded to those. Maybe you're not even really interested in discussion; you've certainly been favoring the more extreme posts on this thread. Favoring is too weak a word . . . you've been outright IGNORING the reasonable posts, it seems. So, Amy, is it fair for us to assume that ALL Christians are like this, seeing as how you made the argument that not all Christians are like the ones in the newspost, but then don't havethe facts to back it up?
Or are you just here to stir up sensationalism? Now that your statement has been succesfully argued against, are you going to admit that we are right, or are you just sticking around to press buttons and have the last word, no matter how useless that last word is? Are ALL Christians like that, Amy? Or just you?
No. Have you not been paying attention? Atheism is a lack of belief in deities. That's it. It's got nothing to do with hatred or love, tolerance or anything else.
It is a lack of belief in god(s). If you think you can decide on the attitude about all atheists on one ex-christian site then you don't seem to care about factual analysis of the evidence.
Not all atheists are ex-christians and not all ex-christians are atheists. And not all the atheists that are ex-christians have commented here.
People that are ex-christians have varying opinions of christians and their influences, good or bad, on those that have left the religion. If you think the video's that are posted of christians who are the "bad apples" make all christians look bad that's not our problem. It's the christians problem for showing their hypocrisy and your problem for making hasty generalizations.
Or do you think it's better to hide the truth about these christians? If so, could you tell me how it would have been better to hide the reports of abuse from the victims of preistly molestations rather that making "all" christians "look bad"?
Someone needs to teach you a lesson about making hasty generaliztions and straw men arguments that support your preconceptions.
There are some here who have suffered a great deal because of christians and/or christian religion. If you wish to force your ill thought out preconcieved notions about what we supposedly "all" think, the you need to be prepared for a "correction" of your thinking.
"Not all christians act like this, and some of us actually do live Holy lives for Jesus."
Is it "Holy" to order genocide, the killing of disobediant children, and genital mutilation?
If you view these things as "Holy" then why do you consider anything "Holy" as a "good" thing?
I must say that you ex-c's are some really pissed off people.
It doesn't take much to jerk your alls chain and provoke some of you. All one has to do is come onto this site and start quoting the bible and mention the name Jesus or start preaching and, that is when language on here starts getting colorful.
Special thanks to posters like Boomslang, Leo Tracks, freethinker05, Trancelation, Phant, and Slingshot for the wonderful entertainment that all of you have provide on here with your angry replies and colorful language. I must say that all 6 of you are some really pissed off people. God or some ex-C must have pissed in your alls cheereos.
Well I'm starting to get hungry again, so it's time for you six to once again feed me (The Troll). So I'll end this post by saying: "Jesus loves you, so you better repent.........LOL!"

"Thanks for proving my point."
Amy -- there were several well-written posts addressing some of your concerns, yet you responded only to the obviously foul-mouthed personal attack. Why is that? did you not see the more civil posts? Do you not care to have a civil conversation?
Atheism is not about hatred or intolerance or anything EXCEPT the absence of theism. Beyond that, everyone has their own values, and you cannot possibly lump ALL Atheists in the same barrel, just like you take offense when others lump ALL Christians into the same barrel.
Ignore the foul-mouthed folks, ignore the personal attacks. Simply respond to the issues.
Why not accept the challenge to work on enforcing the separation of church and state? Why not see what you can do in your community to start changing the image of what Christians are about? If you don't like it when outsiders highlight the flaws of supposedly Christian leaders in the news, why not do something about those leaders. Instead of getting upset with people who point out the problems, why not work in your church organizations and religious communities to clean up those problems?
Lets not give them this kind of ammunition to use against us. Engage them with intelligence , reason and rationality. These are the attributes we are supposed to possess, Right?
Good points, Paul and/or Lauren. Discussions tend to be more satisfying if we can get from one end to the other without swearing or resorting to an ad hominem fallacy.
In practice, however, it doesn't always work out that way. Many visitors to this site see the very existence of Ex-Christian.net as an abomination which they, the True Christians™ must conquer with what they think is faith. (I, personally, think they're projecting some rather formidable self-doubt and insecurity; but that is a discussion for another day.)
What is clear to Me is that our evangelizing visitors keep two separate sets of rulebooks, one for us and one for them. They expect us to play nice, even as they insult us and threaten us with the wrath of their imaginary friend(s). Rarely do they come to comment on the original post. Far more frequently, as in Amy's case, they come here to criticize *us* for discussing something that they consider out of bounds for us poor, benighted heretics.
Thus, respect is lost... And, once it's lost, it tends not to be regained.
Again I would like to reiterate the purpose for all the Christians-behaving-badly news items: It is fairly strong evidence that the ethics of individual Christians are based on individual desire and initiative, not on the transformative power of some alleged supernatural agent.
Which, in My opinion, makes them indistinguishable from secular ethics. The power of moral or immoral action rests with the individual, always.
Christianity itself is another matter entirely. Think about it: It has a "guilty till proven Saved" mentality; glorifies human sacrifice; and admits of an eagerness to see the end of the world. Not exactly a good foundation for either morality or mental health.
And you atheists are supposed to be tolerant? Yet, look at the way you treat and disrespect christians. That's not being tolerant of others, nor is it showing love.
I'm always amused by the Christians that come to a site called Ex-Christian, start preaching to or bitching about the content and posters, and when they're not well received (I know, shocking!) start whining that people weren't nice to them and used...bad words. (oh, and as knitterman points out, they completely avoid the substance of comments directed to them that were perfectly respectful)
You know, you Christians just can't give up your revolting obsession with attempting to make the rules for everyone else, can you? It's a trait that bolsters our conviction that discarding your belief system was a very wise decision.
Well, we are all too familiar with your self-righteous attitude, your delusional beliefs, and your whiney-ass-titty-baby sobbing about "atheists" being mean to you. This site isn't for you. It is for us. You don't get to make any of the rules.

Do you think all christians act this way? Why do you have to make all of us look bad?
Not all christians act like this, and some of us actually do live Holy lives for Jesus.
Why is it that anytime someone who claims to be a christian makes a bad decision that gets them into trouble that you atheists have to start posting videos on here...

ATF (Who wonders if the piece of the holy ghost that resides inside these bad xtians, will also have to go to hell with their stained souls?)
p.s. Hi there eejay
If someone were to commit a crime, and there were two suspects. One is an athiest and the other a x-tian. They go to court and the x-tian does the hand on the bible and the athiest does not. Who's testimony is going to be believed?
----
Good point eejay.
ATF (Who has to laugh at the whole concept of sin, and then begging for forgiveness later)
like white on rice....
Amy,
As pointed out to you, Christians don't need any help in the area of "looking bad".
There's no honor in claiming to be a christian.
The "good" ones always end up f*ed. Nobody ever sides with them; since, well, they aren't in need of forgiveness.
"So called "True Christians", claim that the Holy Spirit resides inside each of them.
If this magical claim is reality, then these so called 'saved' folks should mirror this holy spirit and be unable to commit serious crimes/abuse etc..
The fact that we see they can act so un-godly (and so often in the news), tells us plenty about this holy spirit from your mythical god creature, being nothing but a mind-delusion to the believer."
Great point ATF.
"Dear Jesus, Why have you forsaken us by not filling our lives with your Holy Spirit so that we can live Godly lives that reflect you? Why are you not showing yourself to be more real to others Jesus?"

Hi WCSBA,
Oh I know the answer to this one, ah huh.
ATF (who wonders if they will televise this contest or not)
"ATF (who wonders if they will televise this contest or not)"
I think they should televise it on TBN, then again I know that will never happen, because christians believe in Censorship, and they won't allow anything on their TV Networks that they consider to be negative when it comes to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In other words, Christians don't like their faulty lies to be exposed, and for the truth to be known that Christianity is overrated, and is a flat out bald faced lie.
Sandra
Uh, no. Atheist's are not "supposed to be" anything. Atheists are people who don't believe that gods exist.
That's it.
Doctor's, Lawyers, Firemen, Soldiers, Butchers, Bakers, and Candlestick Makers. Loud, quiet, rude, and shy, smart, dumb, and plain as pie.
But they seem to - on average - have better spelling than believers. You might ask the deity of your fancy to explain that one.
fjell
Correction, I have found that it's easier to open channels of communication between non-believers, than those who hold religious affiliation.
That's my rant on the subject.
I hope this helps, Amy.
As long as you know what the person is talking about, who cares if someone doesn't spell every single word 100 percent correct all of the time
---
Just thought I'd throw in my two-cents (sense) here.
The Holy Spirit that resides within them cannot spell.
"Go out into your community and become an activist for total separation of church and state.
Thanks for proving my point.
Atheism is all about hatred, and apparently your mom and dad didn't teach you any manners when talking to women.
I assume that you are a man, because that is the way most men talk. They act all big and tough with their foul language. OOOH!!! We're a tough guy with our foul mouth aren't we?
Someone needs to give you an attitude adjustment, and teach you how to respect women buddy.
You are absolutely correct, thank you.
Stop using my F#$%ing name. Choose something else. Or is this some ex-christian just trying to stir up trouble (I'm looking at you webmaster).
To many acting immature.
Sandra
I hear ya. It's not like nonChristians have any reason to believe that Christians are willfully ignorant, intolerant and willing to undermine the freedom of others .
