Mangalore -- The Infant Jesus Shrine located at Carmel Hill at Bikarnatte, played host to large number of faithful, on its annual feast held on Thursday January 10. More than sixteen thousand devotees attended the mass, which was celebrated by the Bishop of Belgaum.

Bishop Peter Machado of Belgaum celebrated the mass along with more than 40 priests. In his homily, he said that most of the faithful come here expecting miracles. "They expect Almighty God to grant their wishes as proposed by them. But, one should look upon Jesus Christ who has obeyed the will of His Father to the end. He has led us faithful to follow his example by going through trials and tribulations in our life, thereby, enjoy the eternal peace with Him," he said.

The Carmel Hill is not only a place of miracles, but its serenity should transform one to become a devout individual, he added.

Earlier, Holy Masses were also held in Konkani, Malayalam, English and in Kannada at Infant Jesus shrine. Devotees, irrespective of their caste and religion, paid visit to the shrine and offered prayers.

As a long-time fan of Monty-Python's Flying Circus, I can't help waiting for the giant foot to stomp down on that scene.

How do these people get pass the not making any idols as far of the Ten Commandments is concern. This is definitely an idol. At some point, these people need to stop picking and choosing which part of the bible to take literily versus just parts of it when it comes to others and they ignore the rest.

Thae CAN'T get past the "picking and choosing" point. The wholly babble contains so much contradictory material that any attempt to not ignore any of it - to regard the entire thing as operant - would have one spinning in circles.

They will ALWAYS "pick and choose". Anything else is impossible.

Regarding "idol worship" and Anonymouse #1's comments thereupon:

How, indeed, does one conceive of anything without making a representation of it in one's mind? And why is it okay to do *that* but not to create one in physical form?

I call bullshit on the 'no idols' commandment, anyway. It was probably written into the scriptures by the priests so that they, and only they, could control the imagery. Tanakh scrolls: Idol. Ark of the Covenant: Idol. Cross around neck: Idol. Bible: Idol. Wine and biscuit for Eucharist: Idols. Any physical thing purporting to be created, touched or influenced by a god. Idol. No. Fucking. Difference.

To Joe: Great idea! (wanders off to Internet in search of Pythonesque stuff to Photoshop into the original photo)

As much as I like Monty Python, I'm seeing "Ricky Bobby" praying in ernest to the Baby Jesus....also, I don't have my glasses on, and at first, instead of "homily" I saw, "hornily." LOL
