News of interest to former Christians

West Palm Beach Police said one of their police officers was posing as a prostitute on South Dixie near the Economy Inn on Friday. During the sting they arrested 13 people. One of them is a pastor of a church.

Ronald McCaskill, known as "Pastor Ron" by his congregation, is one of 13 men police arrested during a prostitution solicitation sting on Friday. McCaskill was arrested at about 2:00 in the afternoon. By 11:00 P.M. he'd posted $250 dollar bond and been released.

“Every Sunday is a celebration,” Jose Gablus, a member of the McCaskill’s congregation said.

He said this Sunday was no different. Congregation members said McCaskill was back on the pulpit at the New Life Christian Centre in Port Saint Lucie.

“Pastor Ron himself will preach that on the pulpit, that everyone is human and everyone makes mistakes including himself,” Patricia McKelvy, a member of New Life Christian Centre said.

Word of his arrest didn't seem to shake many congregation members, who stood firm with beliefs they say they'd learned from McCaskill.

“With a man that's so compassionate and pours out his heart like that, it's hard to believe that a small situation like this would be used against him,” Gablus said, “It's not going to break us. All this is going to do is make us stronger and make us realize that the devil is out there to try to destroy us.”

“All the positive we do, nobody wants to know anything about it, however here we are because the pastor supposedly did something and I don't believe he did,” McKelvy said.

Ultimately that will be up to the courts to decide. West Palm Beach Police said their stings typically include video and audio surveillance.

Police said this is McCaskill's first offense.

Funny... the 'devil' always seems to use the preacher's own dick when he wants to destroy 'us'.

"here we are because the pastor supposedly did something and I don't believe he did."

You stupid, blind Jebus freaks can choose to believe that he didn't do anything if you want. You idiots seem to have almost cornered the market on unreasonable, fucked-up shit that you believe without a grip on reality.

Ho-hum. Just another day in the fucking circus known as FundyWorld. Fuck this guy, his idiot sheeple that let him keep his job and the imaginary god-ghostie that once again fell asleep at the wheel and let another holy man fuck up.

My first reaction was; "These poor saps will hold their noses and keep on swallowing..". Then I thought that maybe this was the "straw" for someone in this group. These events do have an accumutative effect on people that are just about ready to face the truth. I hope this helps to break the spell for someone.

Yeh, Christians have it covered no matter what! If they commit a crime, they can say "The devil made me do it." If they commit an atrocity -- like the inquisition or crusades or ethnic cleansing -- they can say they are killing in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ! If they nuke Iran, they'll say that they are just fulfilling bible Prophecy in Revelations!

AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a bit unusual since these guys usually have a smorgasbord of women to pick from among their own flock.

That's why you never see pastors or priests on "To Catch a Predator."

That's a lovely sentiment. I'm sure they feel the same way about the unsaved. Oh wait...for us it is "Burn in hell sinner!"

This is so wrong! as an ex-cop, sometimes i smell a mob mentality amongst these "forgivers" that could easily escalate into condoning murder, as long as it was justified as the righteous & holy thing to do at the time. talk about lemmings! even when i was a full blown fundie, when something got just to way out of hand, i had the balls to take a stand against it. gee, maybe that's why i never made the grade as a christian; i wasn't able to conform to the point of "letting go & let god"! To let any religion, belief, hobby, etc. so control your life to the point of defending it to the death, whether right or wrong is more than brainwashing or cultish; you have agreed to become a martyr for your master.
Fortunately when i left religion, it wasn't because i was a "disgruntled employee", i simply never did like god or trust that the bible was real. This website has been my "daily bread" & thank you Dave for all the people you have helped and gotten together for our cause.

So, when a Christian does "good" it's because of the transforming power of Christ in their lives, and when they do "bad" it's because the feisty devil managed to get one past the guards?

Is this suggestion perhaps the very poster boy for unfalsifiability?

Adding to that, when you consider they believe people who are not "saved" (which is most of the population) follow Satan, that Satan is credited with hijacking all sorts of human history and behavior, that he's responsible for atheism, communism, evolution and planting fossils (yes...I've actually heard that one from a student)...well, all I can say is it looks like Satan pretty much punked god.

Interesting. What is the truth, if I may ask?

How about the truth that their pastor is a hypocritical, deceitful “man of the cloth”? Just another example how christianity makes one a better person. NOT!

Who wants to lay odds that this man of god gets caught again? Any takers?

Sandra,

The "prostitute" was an undercover cop. I don't think anyone is giving her a hard time, except possibly some members of this guy's church.

Ahh, you guys are horrible. You're trying to disprove Christianity on the basis of sinners. Nicely done.

Quote - That's a lovely sentiment. I'm sure they feel the same way about the unsaved. Oh wait...for us it is "Burn in hell sinner!"

This is not the view of a true Christian. We would much rather hold out our hand to you, even at the risk of being spit on, to try to save your soul. True Christians are taught not to judge. Jesus himself was known to hang out with unbelievers and sinners. Doesn't mean he was one of them.

Quote - Ho-hum. Just another day in the fucking circus known as FundyWorld. Fuck this guy, his idiot sheeple that let him keep his job and the imaginary god-ghostie that once again fell asleep at the wheel and let another holy man fuck up.

At the wheel? So God is supposed to "steer" our lives? We're born with free will. We're taught to turn this will over to Jesus. Obviously, this pastor failed.

Tell me something. As a candidate for, let's say president, would you try to persuade those that are for your opponent to join you, or those that you know are already going to vote for you? Is it really a surprise that these pastors that are so weak in their faith do such things? Does it not make sense to go after the most powerful point of your opposition with the most heinous thing you could think of to cause a downfall of the opposing party?

Quote - If they commit an atrocity -- like the inquisition or crusades or ethnic cleansing -- they can say they are killing in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ! If they nuke Iran, they'll say that they are just fulfilling bible Prophecy in Revelations!

The problem with "Christians" today is exactly what you guys are pointing out; but that's just it, it's a problem, not real Christianity. You can point out bad things "Christians" do all day, but the Bible has already said this would happen. Thanks for further proving the foresight that's contained in the Bible, guys. You were predicted, you were prophesied, and you have proven yourselves. I don't condemn you; I condemn the devil you're being swayed by. Please don't take offense. Jesus loves you (regardless).

Oh goody. Another "True Christian™" has joined the discussion.

It's just amazing how many completely different kinds of "True Christian™" are out there. And it's intriguing how many "True Christians™" accuse other "True Christians™" of not being TRUE "True Christians™."

Truly.

Prove Christianity wrong? Christians have been calling Christians liars since the beginning of Christianity. Why does anyone else need to make a comment.

ChibiQ, since your "god" is not detectable in the physical world, all we have to go on is the behaviour of people who declare themselves to be Christians. Much as you try to disown your fellow travellers in Christianity, I fear that you're stuck with them.

"You can point out bad things "Christians" do all day, but the Bible has already said this would happen."

People have been doing bad things (and good ones, too) for as long as there have been people. It doesn't take much imagination at all to write "...and people will do baaaad things!!!" into an alleged holy book. If that's your idea of 'prophesy', you really do need to get out more.

The sun will rise again! And, sometime tomorrow morning Your Time, you will see that I, too, can play at being a prophet.

You are an empty can that is difficult at times to understand.

Ahh, yes! The internal consistancy of a True Christian.

Spot on, kjaere Astreja, spot on. The unfalsifiability of Christian doctrine seems to truly know no bounds.

My point is: in what way does the act of someone scrawling, "even Christians will do bad things," in the Bible help verify the Bible's metaphysical claims?

I don't know about you, but to me this sort of caveat looks like nothing more than the early Church being intelligent enough to try and cover the asses of their successors in advance.

Wouldn't it look that way even to Christians if the book in question were any other but the Bible?

Anyway, i am glad that you, now, are more concerned about who is true christian but not about destroying christianity. It's a nice development. So Dan did an awesome job for that. I, empty can, admit that i did not know the deeper wisdom of him. ha ha...

Not just sinners. TRUE Christians, too. And we use evidence, of course. We don't discriminate. We refute christians falsehoods and hypocrisy in any way we can, my little young earth creationist.

"This is not the view of a true Christian. We would much rather hold out our hand to you, even at the risk of being spit on, to try to save your soul. True Christians are taught not to judge. Jesus himself was known to hang out with unbelievers and sinners. Doesn't mean he was one of them."

Do you really care about our souls? I think not. My guess is you want to score brownie points with your god. Also, as has already been pointed out to you, you may have been TAUGHT not to judge, but you darn sure do.

"At the wheel? So God is supposed to "steer" our lives? We're born with free will. We're taught to turn this will over to Jesus. Obviously, this pastor failed."

Obviously. This pastor's failure is just one small part of the gigantic failure that is christianity. Indeed, the only thing christianity excels at (besides deception) is convincing people that they are worthless scumbags, undeserving of anything. Your bible violates its own teachings. It says don't say to your brother "Raca" (worthless), yet it would have every person believe they are worthless if they don't subscribe to the christian myth. It then tells believers they are worthless, too...the only difference being that god is willing to tolerate them because they have agreed to kiss his royal backside and stroke his royal ego for eternity.

"Tell me something. As a candidate for, let's say president, would you try to persuade those that are for your opponent to join you, or those that you know are already going to vote for you? Is it really a surprise that these pastors that are so weak in their faith do such things? Does it not make sense to go after the most powerful point of your opposition with the most heinous thing you could think of to cause a downfall of the opposing party?"

Keep your friend's close, but your enemies closer? Your point?

"The problem with "Christians" today is exactly what you guys are pointing out; but that's just it, it's a problem, not real Christianity. Jesus loves you (regardless)."

Remind me again on what authority you can claim to know "true" christianity. Also, there is no foresight in the bible...only revisionism (making it say what you want, based on your own values) mixed with desperate, wishful thinking to form an even greater logical mess than was there to begin with that is, by the way, simply WRITHING with inconsistencies and out-right contradictions. You can justify or refute any action you want with the bible. It's a sham, man...a sham.

Tell me, if you can...this devil that you condemn...at what point did he enter into christian theology as the entity that christians now accept him to be?

To be blunt, I have no idea what he's talking about most of the time or what point he is trying to make now.
