News of interest to former Christians

Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, will be coming to the Dallas/Fort Worth area next Monday to speak to the Freethinkers of UTA (a member of the Secular Student Alliance), and will also be debating a local Christian apologist, Kevin Harris. Kevin is a regular participant in the Apologia discussion, and is the co-host of the Reasonable Faith podcast with Dr. William Lane Craig.

If you're local to D/FW, you really should come and see the debate- and that goes for both theists and atheists. I'd love to see a good mix of people there on Monday. Official information about the event can be found at the Freethinkers of UTA homepage.

Date: Monday, November 12, 2007
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: University of Texas at Arlington, University Center, Red River/Concho Rooms
Participants: Dan Barker (Atheist), Kevin Harris (Christian)

I'm reading a book titled; Women without Superstition. "No Gods-No Masters". It was edited by Dan Barkers wife, Annie Laurie Gaylor. It's the collected writings of women freethinkers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Dan and Annie Laurie are on the front line in the war against religious ignorance. THANKS (to Dave) for spotlighting their work.

anybody tell me why this guy, dan barker, do this?

what does he want eventually?

Hey trumpeter, is that your mother calling?

That's the same Kevin Harris who once responded to a Brett Keane video posted on this site.

If I remember rightly, it was about the slaughter of the Midianites (Numbers 31).

Kevin was boasting about how he was going to explain that particular Bible tale. There was just one condition, he wasn't willing to do it on this site. You had to go on his radio show and let him turn all the dials.

Would you like to attempt to rephrase the question and make into something intelligible?

Trumpeter continues: what does he want eventually?

I'm quite sure he "wants" A LOT of things...perhaps a new riding lawn mower. Um, can you be more specific?

I'm sorry, Trumpeting person, but your posts are just as ambiguous and bizzare now, as they were over a year ago when you arrived here as "Empty Can"(which is a better suited name, IMO)

Here's a sampling of your posts from March 2006:

Empty can: "Uh ha ha, right, it's under the 'sun.' And there is no dictionary in my empty wagon.^^ Thank you for you remind me of that.

Anyway, I have read your testimony. So now understand a lot more where you are. you are basically against or oppostie to Christianiy.

Can you widen the angle of your sight a little bit more? Christianity is not the only religion in the world. Oh, of course, I am not talking about Islam, either. I think Islam is one of the worst religion in the world.

I am talking about Buddhism. You said that youve been in Japan. What did you learn there. Did you only immersed in the doubt of Xnity. Why don't you explore the world of Buddhism? So am i a buddhist? No.^^ But it's worthwhile to search for. Who knows you may find the thing there that you want to find so eagerly?"

No offense, but is English not your first tongue, or something? You seem speak in English broken--it hard to decipher what you say, especially when you ask questions funny, makes hard to tell what exactly point you try to make. What nationality u are?

ha, ha, he, he.

Priceless, boomslang. Well done!

Yo, Trumpeter....Have you tried breaking the prosac in half......?

Anonymous trumpeter said...
nice try, boomslang,

i am from korea. yep, english is not my mother tongue.

what i wanted to say was that if you hate christianiy so much you may want to look at buddhism.

buddhism is so different that you may like it. But you may not understand it if you don't detach yourself from your traditional way of thinking. But it's worthy, i guess.

oh my question to dan is nothing. you may ignore it. he just seems wasting his time and energy. So i asked it. But it's his life.

so boomslang, do you understand now?

good.

if you have any other question, don't hesitate asking, ok?

ha ha...

Anonymous trumpeter said...
ok one more thing, boomslang,

buddhism was there when i was child.

and i became chritian when i was early twenties.

and i studied christian theology for damn too many years for nothing, ha ha...

so now are you more satisfied, boomslang?

better, ha ha...

hei, billybee,

no, i doubled it.. ha ha...

IIRC, Harris was also the guy who played "The God Who Wasn't There" for his local apologetics club. . .after editing out some parts that bothered him.

Anonymous trumpeter said...
anyway, i wonder why you ex-c's, like dan barker, can not just ignore, make a peace with christianity, and live your lives... why so eager to destroy it...you might get some revealation from your own gods that you must do that? ha ha...

Anonymous trumpeter said...
anyway, can anybody refund my fucking wasted time for studying theology shit? anybody? nobody? damn... ha ha...

Trumpeter,

The word you are looking for is criticize. Your use of the phrase "destroying Christianity" doesn't make any sense.

I criticize Christianity because I want to. Why do you care whether we criticize religion or not? Why does it bother you? What do you hope to accomplish by posting your language-challenged and poorly expressed comments?

HA HA !!!

Dan,

We don't believe in your god. Since we don't believe she exists, Carm's sophomoric conversation is, well, sophomoric.

Dan. You are providing some significant motivation for staying away from Christianity.

Just put your mind on hold, do what you're told, and open a cold refreshing CARM!

Kudos.

webmaster,

criticize? ok i take it.

i care because it's wasting of time. if you really want to waste it...ok do it. anyway they are your lives.

what do i want to accomplish? i don't know... maybe my sanity...hee hee...

do i sound crazy enough? good.

Trumpeter,

I partially agree with you. Reading and responding to your posts is a complete waste of time.

Please go away.

Thanks.

I know a lot of Korean christians. And for all that do not know, it has supplanted itself quite well into korean society.

It has largely influenced their lives in which it has reinforced an extremely patriarchal family and heralded a kind of sickening blind faith that I pity them all for--especially the women and children who have to endure beatings in the name of faith and god.

If you thought the south was conservative, trying looking at a traditional Korean family.

Trumpeter, you are no different. My advice? Quit posting like you think you know anything about why we're here on this msg board.

I think you guys should cut 'trumpeter' some slack. If he sticks around here long enough he might actually learn something :) After all, isn't the purpose of this site to be critical about Christianity (or any other religion). Think of what you (and folks like Dan Barker) are doing as 'evangelism in reverse'. Being rude to religious folk is certainly not going change their mind. It will only encourage the good old stereotype of the 'angry atheist'. So stick around trumpeter. I hope you learn something.

huesnlight,

did you run away, son of bitch?

you owe me and whole korean people apology.

anyway, where are you or your ancestors from?

Anonymous trumpeter said...
Webmaster,

Do not erase my request to huesnlight.

He said://especially the women and children who have to endure beatings in the name of faith and god.//

I want him to prove his allegation with proofs.

Huesnlight, you prove what you said with proofs.

After this, i will leave.

If that huesnlight does not apologize, I formally and seriously request that you please erase his post. It's wrong, ungrounded, and evil accusation against Korean people.

Thanks.

I do not agree with the insult to his people, and I realize that English is not his first language...

...HOWEVER...

I'm sorry, but I could not help but roll in the floor laughing at the way he has phrased his challenge: "did you run away, son of bitch?"

I (sincerely!!) mean no disrespect, trumpeter. That just struck my funny bone a knock out blow.
