Steiner: are you serious? I was abused by my elders and to see similar events(not "stories" as you put it)documented here is both a relief and a shock. The fact that there is such a steady stream of them just shows what hypocritical, mean-ass, lying, deceptive, pompous buttheads are claiming direct contact to god. And don't tell me Satan led them there. Much better men avoid temptation with their own wisdom, maturity, willpower and respect for others.

As a matter of fact, I do. Not for any sexual tittilation as a repressed fundy might imagine. But I do relish learning of hypocrites brought down. I also enjoy those reminders about how the notion that becoming a christian makes one "a new person in christ" (who turns away from sin and henceforth lives a moral life) is pure bull hockey.

Really, those hypocrites are the first to call unbeleivers immoral, but I don't need a god to tell me having sex with my own children is wrong.

Sex in fundie marriages is often--I daresay more often than not--a sleazy, sordid outcome of their warped religion. If you succeed in teaching young people that their normal feelings are sinful; that these needs and desires are from the devil, than it is certain that problems will follow. It is certain. The pastor in the above post has never claimed his sexuality as simply a part of living. It is not a surprize that he could only find some kind of gratification in dominating and humiliating his own daughters.

Repressed fundie men make victims of their wives in crude and uncouth ways, mistaking what they see on their porn sites as normal male sexuality. When their wives go to their pastors with this, they are told that they must submit.

Guys, get out of church now. You'll not only be good men, you'll be good lovers.

Don't forget--the man was acting in perfect accordance with scripture, Daughters and wives WERE property. Where in the bible does it NOT encourage incest? Incest is like God's favorite sex. And daughters are NOTHING in the bible but THINGS to be used, abused, raped, killed, and cut into 12 pieces to send to the twelve tribes of Israel.

This is why the bible is, uh, not the best manual on child-raising.

I find it all to be bullshit! The man claims to have done this because of scripture, i.e.; in the name of god. Yet the judge is lenient because he is remorseful. How can he commit acts of this nature, acts he supposedly believes are sanctified, and then be remorseful? If he is truly remorseful then he knew it was wrong from the beginning. The judge should have thrown the book at him. The fact that his wife and congregation are supportive should never have been considered.

Just shows you how gullible brain-dead xtians can get when the phrase "I have begged god for forgiveness" is uttered.

In answer to Seth's question: I presume the reason he can't be named is because he is related to the victims, who's identities are protected in sexual abuse cases.

Probably can't be named because the daughters were underage at the time of the attacks and naming him would name the daughters.

two things i have to say as an Australian... the justice system is crap. He got four years... I dont think gaol works, it changes no one. But four years for multiple rapes... grrr....

second- you cant name him because his children are underage and you would be labelling them also....

This is definitely the most disturbing headline I've read on this site in a long time - maybe ever. And I thought the infamous "vandragging" article was bad. I can't say that I'm exactly surprised, though - the religious have been subjugating people for as long as they could figure out that guilt is a great tool to abuse the feeble-minded with. and who is more weak-willed than children? That is why religion favors children so much: they are gullible, and are pretty much willing to do anything for authority or anyone that gives to them. it's why children love religious stories so much. So while I am disgusted and appalled, I have to say I am not truly shocked by this decidedly religious - dare I say CHRISTIAN - behavior. just another sign showing that it is time to speak out against religion.

The children share the blame too as they should have tld someone, if not their mum then someone else as soon as this happened, maybe they enjoyed it at the time but then got guilty feelings which led them to tell all after nearly 10 long fuckin years.

As an Aussie, let me say this is truly sickening.

I've spent the last ninety minutes searching for this and have come up with the following info.

The guy cannot be named because it would identify the victims, which you cannot do for sex crimes in Australian law (apparently).

He is from a regional area.

He is the pastor of a fundamentalist church.

His Initials are DJR. He has four children 3 girls, one boy. He had sex with the two eldest girls for ten years after they turned 15. The daughters initials are K & T. His wife's initial is C. He discussed his ideas with C at some stage, but she reacted negatively to the idea.

He showed the girls a passage from Deuteronomy 6 as the basis for his belief. He showed pornography to one of them.

Both the girls feel abandoned by her mother who continues to support him. One has considered suicide and the other still suffers nightmares and nausea.

DJR was a lay preacher at his church for many years, and also served on the local council for nine years to the early 80s.

A professional representing him was Mr Fugler. I cannot tell if Fugler is a psychiatrist or lawyer, but he is the only one in the South Australian phone book.

Another unnamed pastor gave evidence on his behalf.

A Ms Powell and a Mr Halliday made helpful submissions on his behalf. Powells and Hallidays live in proximity to each other in rural South Australia in the following areas: Whyalla, Gawler, Goolwa, Encounter Bay, Angaston, Murray Bridge & Mundoora (Source - white pages)

The court he appeared in is in Adelaide and conducts circuits in Mount Gambier, Berri, Port Pirie, Mount Gambier and Port Augusta.

I'm sure each will make a fine wife. As long as you don't mind the fact that their dad has been soaking his slong in their hole for the last ten years.

Unfortunately this situation is very familiar to me. My super fundie uncle attempted to molest me when I was 13. He succeeded in molested his 16 year daughter (my cousin). Ironically he used the same excuse as this man. He tried showing her pornography in order to "educate" her for when she was married. He used bible studies to groom us and threats of "God not
forgiving us if we don't forgive him" when we finally reported him. People from church came to "support him" at his sentencing. Nobody supported us. I'm very surprised this guy only got 4 years. My uncle got 14 for only 2 counts, and we were never raped. My uncle now leads bible studies in prison.

To Steiner, "Shut up". The purpose of the article is to expose a reoccuring tragedy that is enabled by Christians and Christian doctrine.

I agree that what this man did was wrong and unacceptable. But what most of you don't realize is that you are making generalizations on the Christian community. I am not christian myself, but I was at one point. In any case, that's like getting a rotten banana and then saying all bananas are gross and disgusting.It's wrong to think like this. I will be the first to agree that there are fanatical, corrupted Christians out there, but there is in just about every other religion also. I just think generalization is wrong, that's all.

I can attest to fundies being told that sex is so bad (even to the extent that I was not allowed to go to movies - even Bambi - as a child or go to dances - because there could be sex at both of those venues). However we never had a problem with violence!!! Huh?
