News of interest to former Christians

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The San Antonio pastor charged with assaulting a teenage girl at a Christian boot camp returned to his church Monday.

The story captured national headlines after Pastor Charles Flowers and an employee were charged with dragging a 15-year-old girl behind a van.

Flowers and his wife, however, told his congregation that they would get through the difficult time with faith -- but no fear.

The church was filled to standing-room-only capacity by supporters rallying behind Flowers and camp trainer Stephanie Bassitt.

Flowers' attorneys said they would build a strong case around Flowers' honorable reputation, showing that they're representing a man who is known for helping the community.

They also explained how problems are bound to develop for a pastor who faces lots of resistance from troubled teens at camp.

"They're difficult people to deal with, they're on a path to destruction," Jimmy Parks, an attorney representing Flowers, said. "They're going to end up in prison, you give them one last chance, you ask this man to save your child's life -- you're going to have some children that resist him the way they resist their parents."

Both Flowers and Bassitt were indicted on one count of aggravated assault. They were freed on a $100,000 bond.

I guess that this "honorable" man who does so much for his community, thinks it is ok to drag children behind a moving vehicle, since they are hard to deal with. This fucktard deserves to go to prison, where they don't exactly like those who hurt kids. I think this might qualify.

WTF????

Does anyone remember the rape case in MA years ago, where they went after not only the rapists but the bystanders who encouraged them? I think they should charge the "supporters" in the standing room only church, who are showing their approval of a crime. Anyone else agree?

Ah. This is obviously some strange new definition of "honorable" that I wasn't previously aware of.

Flowers and Bassitt belong in jail.

And the church members need to take a long, hard look at themselves. People who cheer for a man who admitted to dragging a girl behind a van are on the edge of the moral abyss themselves.

Yes, I agree, but unfortunately, we can't prosecute people for support after the crime. I wish we could.

"They're difficult people to deal with, they're on a path to destruction," So what else do they expect the pastor to do?
It's not his fault.
The law clearly states that this behaviour requires a van dragging. That usually learns them their place good and proper ...so that they can then take their place as well adjusted, responsible members of society who know how to treat those around them with dignity and respect.
It's not like the abused become abusers or anything.

I guess this kind of christian behavior can shed light on how people in Nazi Germany behaved in very much the same way.

Obviously they were not properly trained to deal with troubled youth. Bet he got around any troublesome licensing as a counselor because he was clergy.

I do worry about the level of "troubled" these youth were. Was it "Footloose" troubled, or was it "doing crack in alleyways" troubled?

Guess the congregation thinks this kind of behavior is acceptable. Bet they think the speciescide of Revelations is a good thing too.

Obviously the parents of the kid who was dragged weren't in the congregation that day. But then again if they were fundie
enough they would also have agreed. Because doesn't the
buybull say that the children
who are a problem for their parents are supposed to be killed? I hope we get to hear the results of this trial.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I hope Christians continue this deplorable behavior. There's a good chance this lunatic won't be jailed, because he's a pastor. That, on society's part, is deplorable. It seems the only thing that can land a member of the church in jail is sexually molesting a minor, and this guy most certainly got his jollies off by doing this. If he is jailed, it won't be for as long as someone who was NOT a clergyman.

. . . or I could be wrong. 8shrugs* I guess we'll see what happens as the case continues to develop.

I, too, would like to see these abusive jerks jailed for a good long time. But it ain't going to happen. After all, this is Texas we're talking about here, folks.

Oh, this is the last straw.

Christianity, while perhaps not the *worst* religion on the planet (we all know who that title belongs to), has easily the highest percentage of people who just need to be shot in the fucking head. Seriously, that asshole deserves to hang.

If things carry on going like that I predict witch burnings by 2020.
