News of interest to former Christians

Three Burleson men who belong to a "radical Christian activist group" were in the Johnson County Jail on Friday night after a church deacon caught two of them attempting to ignite an explosive device on Independence Day at a church under construction in north Burleson, authorities said Friday.

Dayton Lee Calaway, 19, and Michael Philip Plaisted Jr., 18, were arrested Wednesday night near the Victory Family Church after they got bogged down in mud as a fleet-footed deacon chased them from the church in the 400 block of Northwest John Jones Drive, police said.

Two other people drove away, the deacon told officers.

An explosive device in a glass container was found propped against the church door. The suspects apparently tried to detonate the device twice before being interrupted by the deacon, police and Burleson Fire Marshal Stacy Singleton said.

As authorities were investigating at the church, they were notified of a fire on undeveloped land behind a north Burleson residential subdivision. A nearby resident reported seeing a vehicle drive away.

On Thursday, Jered Michael Ragon, 18, voluntarily went to the police station for questioning after Calaway and Plaisted implicated him, police Detective T. Catron said. Police called a MedStar ambulance because Ragon's feet were burned, and a emergency medical crew treated him at the station.

Ragon had gotten gasoline on his feet as he tried to destroy evidence from the church fire in the field, and his feet were burned, Catron said.

Calaway, Plaisted and Ragon face charges of arson at a place of worship, a first-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, Singleton said.

They remained in the Johnson County Jail in Cleburne on Friday night with bail set at $30,000 each. Ragon also faces a charge of tampering with evidence; bail was set at $5,000.

The glass container from the church and evidence found in the field have been sent to a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives lab for analysis, Singleton said. The ATF and the U.S. attorney's office are reviewing the case to determine whether federal charges will be filed, he said.

Search warrants served Thursday night and Friday morning at Ragon's and Plaisted's homes uncovered evidence that was also sent to the ATF lab, police said.

Cmdr. Chris Havens, the Police Department spokesman, said the suspects boasted about belonging to a leaderless group of 10 or 15 who share a belief that society has become too focused on self-improvement and self-gratification and has lost focus on the glorification of God.

"They admit to being Christian and being brought up Christian, but they believe there should be one denomination and one church, not multiple denominations," Havens said.

"They did not say they had a name for their group, other than they were a radical Christian activist group. That was the way they explained their group," he said.

The suspects said the group has three levels of involvement: Bible study, consensual fighting and destructive acts. Because one of their beliefs is free thought, however, participation in all three levels is not mandatory, they told police.

The three admitted to being in a core group of seven that created the explosive weapon as a test to draw attention to the demise of society and to see whether the device would work, Havens said.

"They believe that the past generations have accumulated trash and are responsible for making younger generations clean up their mess," he said. "They're trying to make a statement and get society's attention regarding that."

That's why two of the men said they were involved in an earlier fire in a recycling bin at Centre Point Church on Alsbury Road, Singleton said. That fire burned the materials in the bin but did not damage the church, he said.

None of the men has a criminal record, he said.

A fourth suspect, a juvenile, was not arrested because the others said he was not involved, Havens said.

Authorities are trying to learn the identities of the others in the core group, he said.

"We put them in the category of a domestic terrorist group," Havens said. "We hope to discover the names of other individuals involved and if other devices have been prepared along with any plans they may be talking about to further their cause."

Burleson police have no evidence to link the group to an arson fire and vandalism two weeks ago at the Bethesda Baptist Church of Saginaw, Singleton said.

"We don't have anything that leads us to believe they've been anywhere else right now," he said.

Christians are the most violent people in the world. What would you expect from those good Christian teens when, no doubt, they were raised in a nice violent Christian home. You know, spare the rod........blah blah blah.....

When are they going to learn that violence begets violence.

With the particlular wording "arson at a place of worship", is that a different crime than say, arson at a department store? Do they (xtians) get preferential justice here? Or is it just bad wording?

This is the sort of thing that happens with young males. Always has, always will. I heard (and this could be wrong, if someone's got some medical knowledge they'd like to impart) that once guys reach the age of about forty [40], the brain cells in the corpus collosum [sp???] start to burn out, and the guys start to become a bit more civilised and a bit less reactive. They lose, in short, that _edge_ that young guys have about them. I know that I'm a fair bit calmer than I was when I was twentyish, and can listen to nutbars like the Phelpses without any change to my pulse rate. I'm sane now (I have to be. The eels get kind of skittish around people who are a bit frayed around the edges, and it affects their health.).

Probably didn't help that they (the Burleson guys, not the eels) were from the Wild West either. All that NASCAR and meat and C-&-W music and guns, etc. etc. doesn't contribute much to a climate of self-discipline.

"Consensual Fighting"?
What, "Fight Club for Jeebus"?

Silly boys, the FIRST rule about Fight Club is....

Sounds like this group is a morass of Xian, Nazi and Skinhead beliefs.

Give 'em Life in Prison. Maybe Il Douche will rule THAT "excessive" and spring 'em.

What serendipity! A week ago I'd read this article by a Christian pastor on his blog in which he is at pains to point out that terrorism is an evil of Islam and unknown to the Christian faith.

Of course, that's patently false and an act of intellectual dishonesty that only the purveyors of religion have the gall to attempt. I posted examples of Christian states and leaders using terror, of the Church and her Inquisition and of the murderer Paul Hill. Sadly, he chooses not to publish reasoned argument but prefers the demon-haunted nonsense of the sheep.

What I found offensive is that following the bombing in Glasgow innocent muslims were being threatened and physically attacked - yet here was a pastor stirring up religious intolerance. Yet if you listen to their bleating its evil atheists who are to blame for religious intolerance. What crap!

The best bit is this though where he wrote:
> How can anybody say that Christianity > and Islam have anything in common?

Of course they share a *lot* in common. The mainstream of both religions disavow those who perform violence in the name of their faith. Both religions claim that their God/Allah loves all the people of the world and both believe that revelation and scripture are the final authority in life. Moreover, they both believe their faith explains how to live, the purpose of life and the origins of our universe. These two religions share the fact that they both usurp Judaism and claim that they are the fulfilment of the Judaistic faith. In the end they share the same resort to holy terror to win power and silence the faithless.

Ultimately what they share in common is that, like all other religions, they are make believe. Man created God in his own idealised self-image and then fell down and worshipped him (to plagiarise a famous German bloke). Unfortunately, the "idealised" bit gets distorted because these Gods have the morality of a spoilt four year old.

Just to clarify - the dead German bloke is Hegel as paraphrased by Marx and then further paraphrased again. Just realised there are other dead Germans who'd be more famous on your side of the pond and who I've no intention of quoting.

So all Christians are violent terrorists?

Do you also believe in the international Jewish conspiracy? And that blacks are over sexed and black men have huge cocks?

And that the American Catholics are in League with the Pope to take over America?

And that all immigrants are bums and criminals.

And that the people at Ex Christian are a bunch of phoney bigots.

Blogger Huey said...
Anonymous we don't believe that all christians are violent terrorists. But neither do we believe that all christians are inoffensive, peace loving sheep!

Eris was correct in his assesment that "Christians are the most violent people in the world". Look at their most thoroughly documented history. And it was not just the Catholic church. The Calvinist, the Lutherans, the Protestants, etc all share this same historical propensity for violence. The "mine is the true way" syndrome, which is exactly what these criminals suffer from.

This is not to say that all christians are violent; they're not. The flipside to that is that there are those who are. The common claims that the violent are just those who "have lost god" or are not "real christians" are just cop outs, lame excuses. I would point out that atheists do not commit crimes in the name of atheism. Only the religious commit crimes using that mindset.

All that is being pointed out here is that christians, as a group, are not what they claim. It is not bigotry to read history, to see reality. However, take heart. I am sure that there will be christians who will feel that these criminals are really just heros being persecuted and vilified by the secular, atheistic establishment.

Anonymous (the Xian one): I found your latest post to be highly ironic.

You wanted to know if ex-Christians believe there's an international Jewish conspiracy,
if African-American men are oversexed, if Catholics were in
league with the Pope to overthrow America, and if all immigrants were bums and criminals.

The irony is I've know many Christians, some in my own family, who believe those very things.

No, I don't believe all Christians are violent. But using violence to achieve a certain goal is not unknown to many religions.

Anony,..."All xtians are violent terrorists?"

No,people are violent by nature!Mix that with god sanctioned doctrines to kill, stone, control and abuse people, and you have a serious problem.--freedy

c hristianity is tearing itself apart from the inside, finally maybe people will wake up and realize what a dangerous religion this is. If they dont then it will continue to tear itself apart from the inside by christians that think thier sect is the greatest. to the christian posting here: I realize not all christians are bad, but if you see enough bad ones that claim morality you eventually get tired of joining the christian clique. *one bad apple ruins the bunch* and i think history confirms who and where the bad apples came from

No, but all Christians, either explicitly or implicitly, adhere to a doctrine that condones violence and terrorism.

Gee, I don't know.... are they?...do they?

I have never met a single christian who was not violent or abusive! Just yesterday I was confronted by a christian in line at the grocery store! He noticed I wore a necklace that had the “no christians” circle and slash through the cross. He informed me that this did not set well with him and the christian poo flinging started! After I easily defeated all of his arguments for gawd, he told me to “fuck off bitch” and hoped that I would die soon! If I had been a man, he would have started a physical fight!

Another baptist christian I was talking to the other day believes that all Mexicans who cross our borders illegally should be shot with high powered rifles by the Border Patrol! I said, “that sounds prejudiced!”. He said, “ No, their all Catholic and worship Mary. We don’t need that shit in our country.”. I dared not ask about any other non-christian religion practicing immigrants.

Even the most docile of christians are judgmental and violent, they have to be, it’s what their fictitious book tells them to be, unless you consider condemnation to eternal torment and suffering in hell to be non-violent! I’m an Atheist. I think for myself. I choose for myself. I utilize my rational intelligence, common sense, and morality to be non-violent.

(Don’t try and tell me that these are not true christians and that only gawd judges and condemns. If you believe that pedophillia is OK, then your just as guilty as the one who actually acts on it!)

Noell, I have password problems too. If I try to post directly to the blog without logging in first, I usually have to do it twice. If I put in the verification letters, my username and my password, only the username seems to "take". Everything works after the second try, though, and I'm in till I decide to log out.

Perhaps log in to Blogger directly rather than through this blog?

Blogger Huey said...
I have noticed this password issue as well and from my point of it seems to have a time limit. If I type a small message, I generally don't have a problem. But if I get wordy it will want me to type in a different code after typing in the first, displayed one. At this time the password gets erased, but that is SOP for security programs.

I'm stunned that LL thinks her individual rights trump individual rights of everyone else.

This attitude is dangerous and she should not be allowed near anyone let alone children, let alone dictating how other ppls children be treated.

Serious polictal strategy, use it as basis for buttonholing her, push the child abuse angle.

Fire her up into the christian high horse mode. Bait that
B I T C H into saying no one elses rights matter at all.

Let her make our case that she should have her children taken off her.

Her eldest son is an athiest now huh, looks like a potential civil rights case in the making.

I never have a problem posting, logging in, or getting it to take my password; it has never erased what I've typed, nor have I experienced any of the problems with posting that anyone has reported. The site works perfectly for me every single time, and that's a lot of times.

People. When you have a problems with a website, chances are likely that it is NOT the website giving you problems. It is more often than not YOUR computer set up that is giving you fits. In this case, it is more than likely the web browser being used is the culprit. I suggest using the FireFox web browser.

If you're using IE, and you don't have your web browser set to accept cookies, you may have difficulty logging in. Your browser MUST accept cookies to log in to most websites. If you don't have any idea what "cookies" are, or what I am talking about, then just download FireFox and you'll have an easier time.

If you are currently using FireFox and still having difficulty, or are using IE and understand how to set the browser to accept cookies, but are still having frustrating issues, then my guess would be that you have an insoluble "I.D. 10 T" issue.

There is nothing wrong with the site.

Good luck.

No offense to the webmaster is intended. Just for a laugh. Did anyone else see similarities with what the wemaster posted and what xtians post about god and prayer? Look at it this way:

"I never have a problem posting(praying), logging in, or getting it(god) to take my password(answering); it has never erased what I've typed(god has never ignored me), nor have I experienced any of the problems with posting that anyone has reported(it must be something wrong with your life). The site works perfectly for me every single time, and that's a lot of times.(i pray a lot and god has always answered)

People. When you have a problems with a website(god), chances are likely that it is NOT the website(god) giving you problems. It is more often than not YOUR computer(life) set up that is giving you fits. In this case, it is more than likely the web browser(method of prayer) being used is the culprit. I suggest using the FireFox web browser.(the one true method of prayer)"

Again, no offense intended webmaster I'm just being silly.

Dave- I'm sorry if I implied that it was the website. I agree that it is probably my computer. You will be happy to know that I converted to FireFoxinism! My cookies, as always, are enabled. I came and tried to post using Firefox. Following the directions I entered the word verification letters and my blogger name and password. No matter how many times I tried! What was your social security number, mailing address, and credit card numbers with passwords? Coward.

Noell, justify the need to use personal information to make a post. Is someone else’s' personal information, something you need to validate your identity, or belief(s)?

How pitiful.

Boomslang and I were referring to you cowardly fundies that post anonymously. Most of you are what we call drive by fundies that come here , sling some christian poo poo and never come back. Replying to one of many anonymous fundie posts is aggravating. All we ask is that if any mindless moronic christian has anything to say, take the time to register. All they ask for is your email addy. Hardly personal information. Then, if you feel the need to verbally vomit in these rants, you should have the decency to return and read the posts, addressed to you personally if you leave your name rather than an anonymous post, that explain how stupid you really are.
