MOUNT CARMEL, Pa. — A Baptist minister was accused of using the identity of his church's secretary-treasurer to charge up to $28,000 on two credit cards.

The Rev. Raymond Lee Clayton Sr., pastor of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, was charged with falsely acquiring and using a credit card, forgery and related offenses.

Clayton, 43, charged $25,000 to a U.S. Bancorp credit card issued in his name and the name of Patricia Tomedi, the church's secretary-treasurer, and $3,334 to a Staples credit card issued in Tomedi's name — using her Social Security number, police said.

Tomedi, 82, told police she initially confronted Clayton about the Staples credit card and he told her he was responsible for the charges, police said.

Earlier this month, Tomedi said she received a call from a U.S. Bank representative informing her that $25,000 in charges were past due, and that a Discover representative also called to ask her if she had applied for a credit card in her name and Clayton's name, police said.

Clayton was arraigned Tuesday and remained in the Northumberland County Prison on $10,000 bail Friday. Authorities said they did not know whether he had hired an attorney.

Move along , nothing new here. Most people have no idea how much underhandedness goes on with churchs. When I went to a small Presbyterian church during a period of less than twenty years one pastors first order of business was to go buy a new cadillac. His personal hobby of running came foremost and hinted that he might have to substitute another pastor at my wedding because he was running that day. The pastor after him became involved romantically with another divorcee and promptly threw his wife out and allowed the divorcee to move in with him. His house and all utilities were provided by the church. The next pastor took full advantage of a half million dollars which was left to the church by letting members know that he expected his usual yearly raise and demanded the manse be remodeled to his expectations by passing the objections of building and grounds because of known future problems and then using unlicenced contractors to do the work. Most members have left however and he stays on living off the interest of the fund. His daugter is rumored to be sleeping with another long time supporter of the minister and the wife looks the other way.

With all this crap that has and always will happen in church, has anyone ever though about the "if you can't beat them, join them" principle.

That is, join a church and fool them that you are friends. Then steal whatever money you can. And don't worry, because while they will say, "God watches everything", we already know it is a lie and a threat.

Pastor Raymond is a friend of mine and I resent the negative comments about clergy. I don't know why this happened , but I know God is the judge and jury. My prayers are with Mrs. Pat Tomedi for her loss. I believe she will have all her credit and money retured. pastor Clayton need prayers because I'm sure thr jury will do what they do best.

You're right anony...jurers always make their decisions based on false evidence, provided by Satan of course, and God will see to it that your pastor will repay the church the 25 grand some day when the good pastor passes on, lets all pray for the poor homeless needy pastors just trying to save souls.

Atleast 99% of people found guilty and in prison are innocent, especially pastors.
