A big thanks to Tom for finding this:

HONG KONG - More than 800 Hong Kong residents have called on authorities to reclassify the Bible as "indecent" due to its sexual and violent content, following an uproar over a sex column in a university student journal.

A spokesperson for Hong Kong's Television and Entertainment Licensing authority (TELA) said it had received 838 complaints about the Bible by noon on Wednesday.

The complaints follow the launch of an anonymous Web site -- www.truthbible.net -- which said the holy book "made one tremble" given its sexual and violent content, including rape and incest.

The Web site said the Bible's sexual content "far exceeds" that of a recent sex column published in the Chinese University's "Student Press" magazine, which had asked readers whether they'd ever fantasized about incest or bestiality.

That column was later deemed "indecent" by the Obscene Articles Tribunal, sparking a storm of debate about social morality and freedom of speech. Student editors of the journal defended it, saying open sexual debate was a basic right.

If the Bible is similarly classified as "indecent" by authorities, only those over 18 could buy the holy book and it would need to be sealed in a wrapper with a statutory warning notice.

TELA said it was still undecided on whether the Bible had violated Hong Kong's obscene and indecent articles laws.

But a local protestant minister shrugged off this possibility.

"If there is rape mentioned in the Bible, it doesn't mean it encourages those activities," said Reverend Wu Chi-wai. "It's just common sense ... I don't think that criticism will have strong support from the public," he added.

It's about goddamn time that piece of sexist, homophobic, racist trash got declared indecent!

Now, with that racist, sexist, homophobe windbag, nutjob Jerry Falwell is burning in his mythical hell we can move on to getting rid of that hate-filled, war-mongering belief system!

Yea! Maybe the new age will bring a little more peace and tolerance and a lot less religion!

It's a GREAT week for rational thinkers everywhere! Can I get a big Halaluya?!

I forgot to add that hey should ban it and burn it like the Catholic church burned all those sacred texts and invaluable, irreplaceable books of the ancient cultures! After all, the bible is nothing but and incomplete, corrupted and allegorical version of history!

Maybe this will spawn a trend! Makes me happy to see people wake up and smell the mythology!

Well, Rev. Wu, that's just the problem...
When you apply "common sense" to the rest of the bullshit in that book, like talking snakes and donkeys, people raising from the Dead, people bodily flying up into the air and vanishing...
Just doesn't pass the "Smell Test", knowhuttamean?

Funny how that last quote there was saying that if the bible mentions rape it didnt endorse it. Didnt his barbarian god order his choosen people to rape the women of comquered peoples? Kill thier men and take the women for themselves. Typical, another Christian that doesnt actually read thier "holy" book. -Vixentrox-

It is amazing that Christians often complain about Rock Music, Video Games, Pornographic Magazines, etc. Yet, they will defend their Holy Bible even though it is one of the filthiest books ever written. This is because most of them don't even bother to read it. It would kill their faith.

Not necessarily Dog. My husband and I both read through the Buybull, and there are many Christians who HAVE read it all, but the mind-fuck cults of Judaism and Christianity were somehow able to justify all of the atrocious content to many of us.

Deconversion rarely happens as a result of being disgusted by the Bible's violent and sexual content. Sad but true. It is usually the textual inconsistencies that cause one to begin looking deeper into the Bible and one's faith that eventually lead the Christian to see those disgusting passages differently. I am ashamed to say, but Christians, of which I was one, are able to pass over such pornography and violence quite nonchalantly, passing off such shit as divine commandment or punishment for the "heathens'" sins or whatever excuse they employ. I am still amazed at just how easy it was for me to be duped.

Like the whole "Where did Cain and Abel get their wives from" argument. When I was a Christian, it was perfectly acceptable to believe that they fucked their sisters, because Christian authorities or those in the know would say that it was different back then since the blood lines were pure, blah, blah, blah. Now, we know through observing Natural Selection that diversity produces the healthiest offspring, NOT inbreeding!

I've got to agree with Nvrgoingbk. While it's true that there are many fundamentalist Christians who don't actually crack open their Bibles much, a very significant percentage of the Christians I grew up with, read it… well… religiously.

The problem is, we read it through rose-colored spectacles. We read it with the expectation that (a) God's wisdom is greater than ours, (b) there is a good and reasonable answer to everything, that shows God to be true and loving and just.

For this reason, simple critiques like "Cain and Seth must've fucked their sisters" and "How can you call this Nth example of genocide loving and just?" won't be convincing anyone. We find it convincing now, but only because we're no longer under any compulsion to justify it (that's one of the things that did lead to my deconversion, though: a critical mass of too many things that required justification, rather than just being able to stand on their own merit).

Nevertheless, while it took me until my 28th year of life, I probably never would have left if I hadn't been a rigorous student of the Bible, so Dog is still probably right. But it also very much required me to be a student of reason and logic, which is something that AFAICT not many people are, Christian or otherwise.

I should have said could kill their faith rather than would kill their faith. Horror movies and pornography are still popular. People leave Christianity for various reasons. Logic is necessary for someone to break free of its clutches.

As a child coerced to read the Bible as gods literature, adults would never answer my questions about all the sex and violence I was reading in it. Reading Lot and his daughters was the first exposer I ever had to the idea of a possible Menage a trois. First times I ever read of rapes (many promoted in the Bible: Judges 21:10-24 , 2 Samuel 12:11-14, Deuteronomy 20:10-18). Multiple sexual partners (King David was a man after God's own heart). Murders, torture and Paul telling people to Emasculate themselves (ouch). Not to mention all the many other violent and abusive things that most of the adult Christians I knew didn't seem to even know about (they stuck to the Four Spiritual Laws Campus Crusade version I think).

In my later years as a Christian I put a "Parental Advisory Warning Explicit Content" sticker on the cover of my Bible. Some thought it was a joke, but then I made mention of some of the things above and that the Bible should be rated XXX as it makes Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs look like Blues Clues.

I live in Hong Kong, and I am troubled by this sort of misinformation. If you would investigate, you would realize that the 'banning' of the Bible is not being taken seriously. It was only suggested following a controversy surrounding the censorship of a survey on sex issued by the Chinese University of Hong Kong's school newspaper. Since this paper was being censored, the newspaper suggested that the university's legislative body should be consistent and ban the Bible as well. Of course, no one has taken this request seriously as the Bible is viewed as ‘literature’.

This post is troublesome. Many of you are filled with rage about Christianity and its many ills, yet you refuse to look for the truth on the subject. Perhaps Jesus’ reported words about a log in one’s eye does block the vision to see the speck in someone else’s’.

Hi,
I live in HK and googled some articles on the bible ban and came accross your website.

To be honest, some of the comments you guys make, scare the crap out of me. I don't see how some of the writers of these comments are any different from us 'intolerant christians'. You see, it's easy and unfair to judge every christian as a naive, hateful, ignorant idiot.

agree, there are people like that, I will not deny that.

I dare you to look past the times that christians or christianity has hurt you and find the christians that look a bit more like Jesus.

and both christians and non christians should read this:
