News of interest to former Christians

Pat Robertson, commenting on news that the population of Germany "fell for a fourth straight year and recorded its biggest drop since 1990," attributes the decline to the fact that it is "only those with strong religious faith who have children":
In order to have babies, you’ve got to have a hope in the future … If you don’t believe in God, if you have an existential view of life, if this life is all there is, then, as Peggy Lee sang "why don’t we break out the booze and have a ball?" Why do we go to all that trouble? It’s only those with strong religious faith who have children. That’s the truth.

Robertson goes on to say that Europe has lost its "central core of religious faith" and embraced the philosophy of existentialism and people have stopped having babies because they see no hope in the future. As such, Europe is becoming "statistically irrelevant" while the US, though its birthrate has declined as well, has made up for it by allowing a "wonderful flood of immigrants."

Roberson, as we all know, is a moron.
He obviously doesn't get out much. Just because people aren't having babies by the boat load doesn't mean they aren't "scratchin' the itch". Means that there are people being responsible about sex and not adding to the already over populated planet.
That's a GOOD thing Pat. And all those "wonderful immigrants" Pat? Those "wonderful immigrants" you are talking about are the muzzies that would wipe out you and everyone else who buys into any other belief system other than islam. Wake up and smell the bullshit buddy.

How many children did Jesus sire?

Thank God for Hitlers mother, eh Pat?

Yes, because Everything There Is is simply not enough for people with religious faith. Greedy sons of bitches.

Does this mean I have to give my kid back?

Well I guess I have to break the news to my wife that us godless folk can't have children. She will be upset that she has to have an abortion for our little bun in the oven, and that we have to give our 2 year old son up for adoption, but if ol Pat says so, it must be true... Right?

Is it me, or is this wackjob intentionally coming up with crazier and crazier things?

Is he maybe waiting until his congregation tells him it´s too nuts for them?

Like a psychopath hoping the police will catch him.

Has this man never met a "Crack Baby" or a "mother" getting welfare?

Not to disparage those true parents who need the assistance of the state, there are some biological mothers in it for the money.

Robertson is either ignorant or senile.

Well, well, I am glad I am one of those wonderful immigrants...too bad I am an atheist, but good thing I am unable to have children, huh? They wouldn't be raised in church either.
I am thinking about adopting this little girl whose christian parents gave her up cause she's handicapped.
And if Mr. Robertson has not read any newspapers lately, it's a very common trend for the socalled "white" population to not have as many children anymore, not just there, here too.

Pat Fraudertson just gets more and more rediculous everyday! This guy is nonsense. I tried watching him when back in my christian hey day and even then there was a voice in my mind that said he was full of shit! Oh jesus this guy is such a cock!

Yes, on its surface, this is a rather ludicrous statement. It's possible, though, that if Mr. Robertson is crazy, he's crazy like a fox because the inference here is that the faithful had better get busy and start crankin' out the Christian babies for the army of Christ (cue "Onward Chirstian Soldiers") so they can defeat the godless heathens.

Life is so unfair. Why can't he be both?

Would Pat mind explaining the growth in population in China and India?

Maybe its only European non-christians that can't have babies.

France had a higher birth rate in 2006 than in the previous 25 years.

"No CHILD left behind" eh Pat? Me thinks Robertson's DNA was "FUNDAMENTALLY" altered at an early age (smirk)....

Could be because we don't want to make the world even more over-crowded than it already is, plus we get to use condoms - which, of course, is a no-no for devout Christians... I've never felt the need/urge to multiply (not yet anyway), but I DO have hope for the future, as I believe that children will help shape a better world - and I do NOT believe in the God concept.

I guess I just don't understand Robertson's need to link the decline of the birthrate with "no hope in the future." If the rapture is, indeed, soon to be upon us, then which future is he describing? The future where the baby is born only to be swept back UP to the clouds with the "true christians" (as long as the baby's been baptized, of COURSE)? Or, perhaps the future that says: "Well, HELL, jes' in case we're WRONG about this whole comin' back to earth thing, we're gonna need a yungin' to carry on the family name an' inherit my trailer an' all this land"?

They're (christians) constantly telling us the tribulation is at hand, that god is coming...if you believe that, then maybe these "true christians" are merely leaving these babies where THEY THEMSELVES believe they should remain, out of harm's way on this planet which, according to the dispensationalists, will soon be going to hell in a handbasket with the tribulation.

If I were a believer, I might rethink bringing a child into the bloody battle of armageddon, whether or NOT I feel they'll join me at jesus' right hand in the final judgement. Is that too far-fetched or am I giving this WAAAYYY too much thought?...lol

Robertson's statement that "only those with strong religious faith have children" is spurious, in my opinion, when one ponders that there is, indeed, MUCH more to the earth than the U.S. and Europe, as has been mentioned. The world is blatantly OVERPOPULATED in many areas, the fact that they aren't "believers" is more a result of the fragmentation of christianity.

When the catholic church had a stranglehold on the "civilized" world of Europe, lo those many centuries ago, there was never a PROBLEM with having kids--the church encouraged making LOTS of little catholics. In fact, sex, itself, was regulated by the church to include pregnancy in every instance.

When the reformation took place, new ideas concerning the church and their reach into the private life of its members took a drastic turn (particularly in Britain). Divorce was now okay (still not preferred, but, HEY, if the king of England can do it, well...), but more important, was the advent of BIRTH CONTROL in the protestant church. It was now okay to have ONLY AS MANY KIDS AS YOU COULD AFFORD. It was crazy, radical thinking, but ecumenically, the beginning of the end of the church's stranglehold on reproduction.

Sorry about the rant, but it just drives me crazy when the church completely IGNORES the historical aspects of its own involvement in this history. It was the protestant church's break with catholicism that began the slow degradation of its own values. Believe me, I'm not touting or endorsing catholicism, but I bet you that most presbyteries, most synods and most conclaves would give their RIGHT NUT for the control the catholic church once managed to maintain...their envy is almost palpable...lol

By Biological standards, I am very successful, since I am pregnant with my 5th child. I am NOT religious, and Nick and chose to get pregnant anyway. I guess we don't feel as HOPELESS as the rest of the non-religious world. Or maybe it's because we have MORE hope now that we don't worry about Armageddon being around the corner, and Hell being imminent and all.

THe whole argument is ridiculous. I mean, who the Hell cares how many children a couple has? He's such an idiot. I guess he forgot all about those heathen Africans who are quite prolific at reproduction.
