I have read the bible. I have also remembered a part where the disciples were quite upset at Jesus going to a tax-man's house (Matthew I believe it was?) as he was a "sinner". Jesus said that only sick go to doctors. SOmething about not preaching to those who already KNOW.

So let your God sort it out. They don't have FAITH in their God. They don't think God is doing a "good enough" job and they are going around trying to do the job for him.

Typical as I think that's the whole thing of Christianity - doing "the Lord's work" for him.

If he's so perfect, we'd be better off if he did the work HIMSELF. Obviously we're so falible and messed up we can't do the job right (if the bible is to be believed).

I wish she had asked Mother Phelps: Do you plan to kill your daughters if they have sex before they are married or if they act unruly? Have you ever done any work on the Sabbath, that is, Saturday? If so, can we adopt your daughters after YOU are stoned to death? Why does your God create people with birth defects, such as kids with sexually ambiguous bodies? What evidence do you have that being Gay is a choice?

But, enough. You can not reason with the Hitlerisms of Mother Phelps and Company. So, they win. Everything bad that happens to America is because of Gays.

I have a suggestion. I think the Phelps’ should leave America lest they be consumed by the soon coming hell-fire and there be no righteous people, such as themselves, to re-subdue the Earth. You have to appreciate the zeal and tenaciousness of this family, they stick by their tenets and beliefs and aren’t going to be silenced. The beauty of this family is they live by the teachings of the Bible literally. What it does is put into actions the teachings of God, and it exposes it for what it really is. They are the actors of the Bible…if you will. With them you’re in or you’re out, there is no middle ground, no debate, but that is what the Bible teaches. I think that they do more harm than they realize for their cause. What they are doing is putting into action the ridiculousness of God’s teachings. Most everything in life is measured in degrees comparatively. They seem to be at the extreme end of the pendulum swing. I wish there were more people like them, to show the world how religion can retard the human mind.

I was raised by that kind of Christian. They never protested in public but the way that mother and her daughters talked is the way people talked behind closed doors in homes and churches. I'm talking about people whose beliefs and practices are protected in the name of religious freedom, people who have been in Canada for two centuries.

I am impressed by the seating arrangement. The mother is between the interviewer and the girls. There is a purpose for that. It's the mother protecting her young from the ravenous wolves of the world.

. . . unfortunately, that's the damn truth. I've had friends that were conservative Christians, spinchters closed in fear and jimmy-johns clutched in terror while they simultaneously kept their mouths shut (for a while) on "increasingly important" topics such as gay marriage, the release of semen outside of a married woman's vulva, and all other general sexual liberties. They manage to act liberal for a while, but it always comes boiling to the surface and spilling over. They want to believe so badly, they have to surround themselves with the propaganda lest they be reminded of the shocking realities of human existence.

I agree; the Phelps family is articulating what conservative Christians believe. Those of us whom have friends under that banner will sooner or later be faced with the rality of their beliefs. They're all fine and dandy until you want to say that sexuality is not a choice, or that the ejaculation of sperm before and outside of marriage and a married woman's vulva is okay by you. And that is what they are doing. But God is Love, and God loves all people. And much, much too often Christians take their own agendas and twist "God" to fit into it and to promote it.

Laura, if you apologize for these women, then you will have to apologize for your GOD as well. These women are absolutely correct in their understanding of the GOD of the Bible. Their approach simply isn't popular, but they are true Christians.

Since there was less love and compassion shown, then their reasoning was that this loving God was less knowable, unseen, hard to find, reclusive, must always constantly seek out, people have always fallen short of the glory of this God.

In light of #1 and #2, many people, especially those who have studied the Bible, have concluded that God does not meet the all-good, all-knowing, all-powerful criteria placed on Him by Orthodox Christianity and the Bible itself. Seeing the unresolvable conflict between #1 and #2, they conclude that God probably doesn’t exist and is more rationally explained as a figment of humanity’s evolved imagination. You are an Atheist.

4. If, after #1 and #2, you still believe in God, you must have had an extra-biblical revelation of Him/Her/It, which fits your definition of a perfect and all-loving creator. Unfortunately, this makes you a Cult-believer and a non-Christian by your own religion’s standards.

The bible teaches homosexuality is a sin. I do agree that Tyra is supporting this sin. God loves everyone and wants them to turn away from evil and all appearance of evil. I admire the Phelps boldness for God. I also worry that they are forgetting the greatest commandment is to love one another. I pray that their message can be delivered boldly but with more understanding and love in the future. People with no knowledge of the scriptures, even babes in Christ often need to be introduced to the fact that God loves us first but to join him in Heaven we will have to obey and submit to his will. In our vain world, submission is hard for all of us. We all sin. The difference in Christians and sinners of the world is our submission to his will and obedience. No one can enter heaven without acceptance that Jesus Christ is God's son, He died on the cross for our sins and we must choose to follow him. I pray for all involved with this show..

Okay, let's see how that works out in both real life and then for your bible god, shall we.

REAL LIFE:

This phrase you use, 'appearance of evil', is one that is very similar to what many of us hear in the workplace these days when it comes to corporate ethics training for employees.

It's no longer enough to not just do 'evil' (unethical) things at work, but one is now to make sure it doesn't even APPEAR that you might have been associated with something 'evil' going on.

This ethics training also seems to imply, that if the big-wig bosses are teaching you to behave in this manner, that they also surely must be following those same ethical guidelines they are 'preaching' to their employees.

Alas, as many of us have seen, what is preached by leaders (bosses) to their followers and what they do themselves, aren't necessarily one and the same.
Reminds me of some parents who say, "Do as I say, not as I do".

Of course, our bosses and leaders are just mere humans, and therefore fall into 'sin' and sometimes do unethical things that contradict their own preaching's to us.
When such leaders and bosses do 'sin', what shall we now think of them.

Should we follow in their evil footsteps because they are our bosses and one should blindly follow their actions, rather than their ethical words to us?
Such a choice would mostly come from one's own set of ethics and not really be based on the unethical behavior of such bosses or leaders.
We still use our own ethics values and common sense when we see our leaders acting wrongly, don't we.


BIBLE GOD:

When it comes to bible ethics, things are a bit more complex than work ethics.
We expect that this god will not only preach righteous ethics to us, but unlike some human bosses will do, won't ever differ in his actions from what he tells us to do.

God is pretty much like those bosses/leaders who preach to us to be ethical, but in God's case, it's all about not 'sinning' or doing evil, and as you now say anon; not even giving the 'appearance of evil'.

Okay, so if we are told by this big boss in the sky not to be evil or appear to be evil, then one can assume that the god giving such a command, would also abide by these very same rules, or would he be more like that parent I mentioned that wants us to do as they say, not as they do.

God does tell us not to do certain things and putting aside the sinful things that seem open for debate these days, there are some fairly solid commands we are told to abide by.

So then Anon person, why is it that almost every ex-christian here can point to countless times in the bible where god (and jesus) has at least the APPEARANCE of doing EVIL himself.

We could probably debate whether his actions were truly evil or not; till the cows come home, but if we are never to give the appearance of being evil, why then does this boss leader sky-god get to do that very thing, in the ways he has interacted with his creations?

For every piece of scripture you can show us that shows a loving/caring god, we can show you a very evil acting god instead. The bible does not bother to explain to us mere mortals why god has **APPEARED** to act in an evil manner, yet there is no doubt that he has, many many times, especially throughout the old testament and in several places in the new testament as well.

So if you ask me Anon, if your sky god doesn't have to appear to us as a totally non-evil entity, and gives us plenty of evidence of his evil actions in your bible, then why on earth would we obey such a hypocrite?

I think Anon, that you really need to go read your bible some more to discover that your figurehead has done more evil things in his time, than most humans are capable of ever doing to each other.

Gosh, I wonder if this sky god has to sit in judgement of himself on judgment day, and if so, will he condemn himself to his own hell for his' war-crimes' on us poor humans?
