News of interest to former Christians

Christians in several countries have been offended by the Madonna's show.

A 63-year-old Dutch priest has confessed to making a hoax bomb threat in an attempt to stop a concert by US pop star Madonna, prosecutors say.

Her mock re-enactment of the crucifixion in one of the scenes offended some Christians during earlier shows in Italy and Germany.

But the concerts in Amsterdam went ahead as planned on Sunday and Monday.

A city official said the priest was arrested soon after making the call because he used his home phone.

Emergency services quickly traced the number.

The official, prosecutor's office spokesman Robert Meulenbroek, said that as this was probably the priest's first such offence, he was likely to receive a light sentence.

He has been released from custody pending a verdict.

"We take bomb threats seriously, but in this case it was clear very quickly that it was not real," Mr Meulenbroek told the Associated Press news agency.

Madonna has since gone on to do two concerts in Prague, and will play her final European date in Moscow next week.

Russian Orthodox Christians have also expressed concerns about the use of religious imagery in her show.

I wonder what would happen if someone made a bomb threat in the vatican versus the madonna show...it's an apt analogy...lots of guys in drag in there who are icons of homosexual men everywhere...even a statue or two of [the] madonna herself...Like a virgin playing on the vatican sound system...I think it can work! Maybe a light sentence will be handed out for that!

No surprise here; lying to serve the Lawd is a time-honored tradition in christinsanity. Wouldn't be surprised, either, if the priest resorts to another tradition among believers -- claiming he was persecuted because of his religion (even though the actual persecution he'll get will likely result in no more than a light tap on the wrist).

As a Dutchman, I am deeply embarassed. I have this feeling we have a sort of reputation to uphold as a nation of tolerant people. Nice going, Rob. What was the ninth commandment again?

Meanwhile, the concert itself was a success... tens of thousands cheered her and shouted along with her, while outside literally a handful of people was protesting and praying for Madonna.

Personally, I found the idea of her cross act tasteless, and typical of a woman whom I consider not an icon of free thought and creativity, but of shameless exposure and an almost pathetic lack of true spirituality (I mean, please. Qabalah? That´s fucking desperate. She´s got two kids. If that does not give you spiritual fulfillment, you are not doing something right.).

But these whining pricks - they even asked the minister to forbid it! As if they have the copyright!
When our PM gave George Bush a blowjob under the table when he was invited to the White House breakfast for faithfully obeying Curious George when he asked the European nations to support his invasion in Iraq, not a peep from these religious assholes. But a SINGER sings a SONG ("Live to tell", which has nothing to do with anything except a girl finding out that men are jackoffs) on a cross, and they are up in arms. Fucking maggots.

That example of insanity really just shows the powerful effect religious indoctrination has on the human mind.
