News of interest to former Christians

A former Lawrence County PA pastor has been charged with 192 counts of possession of child pornography.

The Rev. Robert D. Schmidtberger, 50, of New Castle PA, faces a preliminary hearing Thursday after a yearlong investigation by state police. He resigned April 22 as pastor of Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church in New Castle.

Authorities said they seized computers, CD-ROMs and other hardware from his home and found 161 images of child pornography and bestiality on the CD-ROMs and 31 images of child pornography on ZIP drives. Investigators found six e-mails on the CDs that contained attachments of child pornography.

The e-mails were sent from the AmericaOnline screen name "RobthePastor," police said.

Schmidtberger also is charged with three counts of distributing child pornography and three counts of criminal use of a communications facility.

Officials at AmericaOnline discovered the photos in the e-mails and alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators there alerted state police in Butler, and police began investigating Schmidtberger in May 2005.

He had been pastor at Rose Point since November 1994. The church belongs to the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America -- a small, conservative denomination known for its belief in the Bible as infallible and its adherence to the orthodox theology of church reformers John Calvin and John Knox.

I personally know this man and his family. He does deserve to pay for what he has done as all people do. But what he needs most now is support and grace. All men sin and fall short of the glory of God and I'm sure all of you reading this know that. Just remember when you point a finger at someone else you have three pointing back at you. Please Pray for this man! He needs Christ now more than ever.

Yeah right. He needs prayer. The youngsters he may have hurt don't deserve your mercy right?

Typical christian crap. The reason why christians lean toward the sinner is because the trash of society is more likely to accept the christian creed. Good people don't fall for it, so evangelists don't even bother with them.

Needs Christ? What he needs is a hopefully succesfull dose of the judicial system. I feel for the kids, not him.

Yes, justice needs to be served, and it will be. But we still need to remember we are all humans and all mess up. It is not our job to point the finger we all have failed. And who is to say that his wrong doing is worse than our wrong doing? We need to remember his innocent family and pray for them. We also need to remember the other families who were affected by his wrong doings and pray for them.

Yes justice needs to happen, but who are we to judge? The Lord didn't ask us to judge He said that He would do that on judgement day. You need to pray for this man and his family. He needs to know God's love is still there.

Some of you have been quick to judge. Yet, no one is without sin. How can you say that you are any better? The Lord says that all sin is the same it carries the same weight. Think for a minute have you ever lied or taken the Lord's name in vain, had anything become an idol in your life, committed adultry, not honored your father and mother, haven't kept the Sabbeth? This list can go on. You know that somewhere in your life time you have sinned. Yet in your mind it doesn't match up to kiddie porn, I understand. Just don't cast the first stone. You are not without sin. Read John 8:1-11

I am not condoning anything that he did. It was wrong, but I know that the Lord calls me to love him as the Lord would love him.

"WE" (humans) are the only beings around, that have the capability to judge.

If we turned our backs every time, to the things we find unacceptable in human behavior, then who would be left to protect us, from ourselves?
I therefore totally disagree with you, in that we not only have a right to judge others, but we MUST do so at times.

>The Lord didn't ask us to judge He said that He would do that on judgement day. You need to pray for this man and his family. He needs to know God's love is still there.

And you're assuming that your advise here about what your imaginary 'lord' says, would be welcome on an EX Christian website, WHY?
Perhaps you didn't notice that we no longer live that delusion of your lord existing?

>Yet, no one is without sin.

So I guess then that all life forms have sinned, in your mind?
You do realize that outside of your bible beliefs, there is no such thing as "sin", right?
"Sin" is a measuring stick that your bible book set up, so that we could all be seen as failures in your god's eye.

> The Lord says that all sin is the same it carries the same weight.

And here is one huge problem with YOUR bible concept of right and wrong.
To your viewpoint, all sin is the same.
Therefore, if one steals a candy bar from a store, one might as well murder the owner in the process, right?

That is truly SICK and WACKED.

> Think for a minute have you ever lied or taken the Lord's name in vain,

I do it all the time, sooooooo?

> had anything become an idol in your life, committed adultry, not honored your father and mother, haven't kept the Sabbeth?

Yeah, I'm really big on NOT keeping your god's Sabbath.
In fact, it's one of my great joys in life.

>You know that somewhere in your life time you have sinned.

In fact, I know no such thing !!

>I am not condoning anything that he did. It was wrong, but I know that the Lord calls me to love him as the Lord would love him.

So your lord expects us to love the sinner, no matter what, right?

Then explain to me how your lord doesn't play by his own rules then, where he will send all heathens to a hellfire, for all of time.

Is that what you call "LOVE"?
If so, please don't ever make contact with any living breathing human being...THANKS.

Renae...Yes justice needs to happen, but who are we to judge?

Who are we to judge? We are human beings, that's who. We, as a civilized/organized society, are the only beings capable of seeking, and implementing, "justice".

Renae...The Lord didn't ask us to judge He said that He would do that on judgement day.

Until you can provide objective evidence that a "Lord" exists, your assertions about what this "Lord" asks of us are totally, 100% immaterial to me.(and most of the rest of us)

Renae...You need to pray for this man and his family.

You need to pony-up some evidence that shows that begging an invisible man in the clouds for assistance, has any kind of effect on reality. Until you do give such evidence, your ritualistic chanting may as well be directed to your ceiling fan.

Renae...He needs to know God's love is still there.

If you refer to the deity of the Christian bible, there is no such "love" awaiting, not even in concept. True "love" doesn't have conditions; it doesn't have "strings attached"....i.e..love me back, or I'll incinerate you!

Renae...Some of you have been quick to judge. Yet, no one is without sin.[bold added]

There is no such thing as "sin". But for sake of argument, if human beings don't have the "free will" to avoid "sin"(which is essentially what you are saying), then why on earth do "Christians" try to make a distinction between "so-called Christians", and "True Christians"? Why do they try to distance themselves from those who misbehave? 'Care to shed some light on the subject?

Renae...How can you say that you are any better?

Not "better"; 'just more in touch with reality, and more prepared to take responsibility.

Renae...The Lord says that all sin is the same it carries the same weight.

Boom' says, until you offer evidence that your biblegod actually exists, nothing you say about her carries any weight.

Renae...Think for a minute have you ever lied or taken the Lord's name in vain, had anything become an idol in your life, committed adultry, not honored your father and mother, haven't kept the Sabbeth?

Yes! But would you agree that it's a bit difficult to "honor" my mother and father when it is required that I must HATE them in order to be a disciple of biblegod? I also have a hard time chucking rocks at "sinners" who earn a living on the Sabbath. 'You?

Renae...Read John 8:1-11

Read any book that is critical of Christianity. A few of them are best-sellers. Will you?

Renae...I am not condoning anything that he did. It was wrong, but I know that the Lord calls me to love him as the Lord would love him.

Again, regarding a "Lord", you don't "know" any such thing; you believe it, and that's all fine and dandy. My question is, what does any of what you just said have to do with little kids being exploited for sex?
