These organizations, like the Traditional Values Coalition and many more may be their worst enemy from our point of view. But many have lots of money and lobbying power and should not be taken lightly. Sickening they are, but some spend tens of millions of dollars pushing their hate filled agenda’s upon our government. The Terri Schiavo case is a good example of that. They also do not believe in Separation Powers. Exposing them is important -- as silly as they may seem to you.

Amaterasu - you named after the most beautiful of goddesses - the demented Shirley says nothing else than that she is happy about every dead soldier. She says that God is punishing America by killing soldiers in Iraq. God is punishing America because it is not killing gay people.

An interesting expose on Fred Phelps and his family can be found here. While most of the family maintains a close relationship with Fred, several have also fled from the home, detailing years of psychological and physical abuse.

Big surprise, right?

The funny thing is that Phelps' theology is perfect Calvinism (and don't let a Calvinist insist otherwise, even if they're not frothing at the mouth like Fred is).

To me this raises an interesting question. Is this "lady" actually insane? Taken far enough, is there any substantive difference between total unthinking uncaring indoctrination and insanity? I honestly don't know.

Minimally, I say it's fairly clear that she and her like-minded parishioners are sociopaths. How detached from the feelings of others must one be to excoriate the grieving families of dead soldiers? That lady is as sick as any serial killer.

This woman is out of her mind. What little I know about her church and Papa, I speculate she has been abused and brain washed from a very young age and knows nothing else. Can you say "Stockholm Syndrom"? She was pissing me off and I was thinking how enjoyable it would be to kick her ass, but by the time I started writing this I decided she wouldn't be worth the skin off my knuckles. Someone, please, put her in straight jacket and cart her away!!!

What ticks me off is the double standard people use when it comes to christianity. If a teenager goes off and hi-jacks his school or jumps off a bridge and they find a DnD manual or a book on atheism in his belongings everyone immediately starts crying about family values and the evils of satanism. But people like the Phelps family can practice their brand of hate and bigotry and yet nobody wants to question the ideology on which it is founded. Christians disassociate themselves and say "Well, those people aren't 'real' christians". Bullshit! Historically speaking, what they preach is what the church has been preaching since the popes first took over.

I'm waiting for the day when Phelps & his group get struck & killed by lightening while protesting at a (gay atheist's) soldier's funeral. Not that I want a Gay Atheist to die, but as we know, many people die during war. Of course being Gay & Atheist would be something people probably wouldn't find out until much later after the happening. Then we could say, God hated Phelps.

Yeah, the Phelps family. What a friggin' mess. What's funny is that they're this tiny little group that manages to antagonize and infuriate massive numbers of people, simply because they're so vocal. I think it would be easy to marginalize them, if people could just get past wanting to kill them.

I've checked out their website in the past, and even emailed them (they didn't respond - surprise, surprise). I did it for the same reason I've watched the beheading videos and other death-themed videos showing real or even faked death - morbid curiosity.

Of course, one would be hard-pressed to find a better reason not to become a Christian - complete disassociation with people like this.

When Reverend Phelps speaks or one of his crowd, they are quoting scripture accurately.
Christians will not admit Phelps is one of them and they try to distant themselves from him and his church. But the truth of the matter is that Phelps is a Christian and he is quoting the Bible accurately.
Again the hypocrisy of Christians not accepting one of their own as Phelps reveals the true character of gay hating Christianity.

Protesting the soldiers deaths is the best thing that's happened yet. They've been picketing and harrassing gay funerals for years. Now they're attacking something so mainstream and unthinkable that no one can ignore them.

I don't mean to say "thank God for dead soldiers" I mean "thank God for Fred Phelps." What a blessing that the other (not very much) more moderate Christian homophobe preachers have to distance themselves from Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church.

I think it's great that Phelps and his crew have now started picketing soldier's funerals. They've been harassing and picketing gay funerals for years.

Now, I'm not saying "thank God for dead soldiers", moreover I'm saying it's great that these hateful crackpots have finally gone so over the top that they're pissing off and disgusting nearly everyone.

Phelps is really not that different from Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, but what an embarassment for them to have him on their team. Maybe some of the (not much) more moderate Xtians out there will wize up and see what a crock of shit they're being fed.

Even more to Phelps' credit is that his disgusting protests have already resulted in legislation against hate speach masquerading as religious freedom.

It was people like her that caused me to leave the church and wake up out of my christian coma! The things people do in the name of some non-existent god, is horrifying! I have three sons. If one of my boys came home in a body bag and that wacko came around, I would kill her, period, end of story. There is not a jury in the world that would convict me! Somebody needs to rid the gene pool of that cancer as soon as possible!
