He is the second leader at Redemption Christian Fellowship in Woodlawn to be charged in a month

By Nick Shields

For the second time in a month, a leader at a church in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore County has been charged with sexually abusing a teenager.
Gary Warren Warfield, described in court records as a deacon at Redemption Christian Fellowship, has been charged with sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy at the church. Last month, Gerald Fitroy Griffith, a pastor at the church, was charged with sexually abusing that boy and two other teenagers during counseling sessions.

An attorney for Warfield said yesterday that Warfield denies the allegations. A lawyer who represents Griffith said that many in the congregation stand behind the pastor.

According to charging documents filed Wednesday in District Court, a 17-year-old boy told a social worker last month that Warfield, 44, of the first block of Fallridge Court in Gwynn Oak, touched him improperly starting when he was 14. The boy said the last incident occurred in September, according to the court records. He said that he told Warfield to stop and that Warfield replied, "It's not like that. I'm just showing you my love," court papers say.

The boy told the social worker that the incidents happened at the nondenominational Redemption Christian Fellowship, in the 6500 block of Dogwood Road, and in a church van on the way to a store, according to the documents.

Warfield is charged with sexual abuse of a minor, second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense. In an interview with police Dec. 6., Warfield, with an attorney present, denied touching the boy inappropriately, charging documents show.

"He adamantly denies that he ever did anything that in any way was inappropriate to any member of the church community," said Joe Murtha, an attorney representing Warfield. "He denies the allegations and will stay committed to the community of the church."

Griffith was charged last month with multiple counts of child abuse and sexual abuse of a minor and with several other sex offenses.

A teenage former parishioner told police that Griffith told her he would be her father figure because she did not have one, court records show. The girl said that Griffith, while providing counseling in his office this year, touched her sexually and told her that they should be closer, the charging document states. He is charged with sexually abusing the girl and with sexually abusing two teenage boys.

Griffith, 39, of Bowie, who has traveled internationally with his ministry, was arrested Nov. 15 while waiting to board a previously booked flight to London at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

David B. Irwin, an attorney representing Griffith, said the congregation raised the money for Griffith's release on $600,000 bond to ensure that he could continue to preach as the abuse case works its way through the court system.

"There are a lot of parishioners who think he is the real deal," Irwin said yesterday. "There are a lot of people who are standing behind him and standing with him and who believe in him."

A Web site for Gerald Griffith Ministries referred to Griffith as "a modern-day apostle, called of God for these end times" and says that he has held "crusades" in Chicago, Canada, Nigeria, the West Indies, London and elsewhere. He is described on the Web site as senior pastor at Redemption Christian Fellowship.

Church officials could not be reached for comment yesterday. Warfield was released Wednesday after posting $50,000 bail, his attorney said.

What pisses me off is how the church members always come to the aid of the pastor accused of child molestation, as if that "Reverend" in front of his name gives him some magical powers that ward off evil-doing. And anyone making accusations must be pawns of Satan.

The asshole gets all the Christian "love" and support while the victims are essentially told to fuck off. Seen it over and over and over and over..... I'm waiting for the day when molested kids have their whole church rallying for them and running these predators out of town, at best....or doing an old-fashioned deterent to sexual urges called castration. Heck, the people in Middle Eastern countries use genital mutilation to ensure the chasity of little innocent girls, why not do it to these perverts?

They'd change their tune, however, if the offender was an athiest or even just some stranger. You'd think they'd demand more of their leadership but, of course, they're untouchable while the regular members who don't have the power and influence these jackasses do, get all the scorn, blame and victimized again.

And people have the nerve to wonder why clergy comment sexual abuse so much.....because they can, you mindless, brain-washed idiots!

Yes, lets let him continue to preach, there's still souls out there to be saved.

Something needs to be done about this religious fundamentalist bullshit and soon.

Get this! Before the pilgrims landed here in America, there was not one church on American soil, must of been so nice before they brought their bible nonsense over here.

Look what we have come from in 500 years. We've come from a land without a single church on American soil to multimillion dollar churches with thousands of members with grand cathedrals, and preachers making huge salaries, with homes and cars furnished, with the preacher being put on high. There's a church where I live within a quarter of a mile of each other, each of their own denomination and philosophy. The only problem is that God is only on duty on Sundays, he's so busy during the week helping all the starving and abused children all over the world. God is a busy man.

Hey South, I agree... I don't think they get *it*... ;-)

Hey Dave8,

And they will never get it until the clergy has raped every last member or lets say one of the politicians'.

I think to lump everyone who is clergy into this group is wrong. I say this as someone who is clergy and who thinks that the two individuals are guilty. The fact is most clergy are living by what they preach. Is it wrong for me as a Christian to say that because some aetheists are vilonet towards Christians that all are the same way? Yes, of course it is. Some of you sound like you were hurt and disappointed by the church. The church is the spiritual hospital in which we all' leaders and lay people, need to be delivered and restored from sin in our lives. When you are disappointed or hurt on your job do you always up and leave your job? Or since the government has continually disappointed you by not upholding the Constitution, have you rescinded your citzenship or rejected everything that the government represents? Of course not. The church is no different, bceause all organizations are only as good as the the people in them and unfortuantely people are fallible, selfish, self-centered, mean, ect., because we yeild to the lusts of the flesh. You are no better than "church folk" and church folk are no better that you. We all make mistakes, that's why we need a Savior named Jesus Christ. Stop looking at people' and begin putting your eyes on God. If you don't want to believe in God and associate with His church, that's your right and I respect that. But don't throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water. Again, I think the pastor is guilty of the crimes he is accused and is a wolf in sheep clothing and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. It is also that congreagation's responsibility to help restore, heal, and support the victims of this crime. As a preacher I think it sucks, because it gives us a bad name. And to Jay, I'm sure the Indians are saying how great this country was before the pilgrims(white man) arrived here with his disease, lies, and guns. So maybe by your standards the Indians should lump all white people in the same category.

I deleted much of your post because it has been said so often by so many others. Doesn't your Bible say that Christians are "the body of Christ?" How are we then supposed to see God if not by the body?

So, many "good" Christians, that want to be separated by the "bad" Christians... Can anyone tell me, how this can be accomplished, and what standard is being used, and for bonus points, "why" this standard is not approachable by any other secular means...

Yikes! It hurts me to think what you all must have gone through to have gone to be in your present states of mind. Personally, I was molested by a pastor as a teenager. Didn't turn me away from God, since the pastor wasn't Him, but a man representing him (and quite poorly). After a family tragedy many years later, my pastor at the time took the opportunity with us all lying there bleeding out emotionally to kick us around a bit...also did not forsake faith in God, but left the asshole's church. PEOPLE will let us down every time, especially if we put them on a pedestal and begin worshipping them.

No need to imagine; I'll tell you *exactly* what it was. I started to think for myself, and to ask questions. The rest followed quite naturally, for in my opinion the edifice of religion cannot withstand critical analysis. Christianity in particular depends heavily upon having people swallow various bits of dogma that are irrational and lacking any kind of evidential support.

Now, I take all this misbehavior of clergy with a grain of salt. Look among the adherents of *any* belief (or lack thereof), and you will find some truly despicable examples of humanity. You will also find people who are shining examples of compassion. What does it show? Not much. Unless, of course, you claim that one particular belief system is magical in its transformational powers (as Christians often claim). In that case, the existence of malevolent individuals within that group tends to show otherwise.

I do believe all alligation. When He was here in Minnesota He was involved in a Homosexual Relationship with another local Pastor, and it caused all members to scatter from His church(Pastor Buck---)

I attended the church for a couple of years and yes I know he did it. We all had to be his perfect little people and perform as instructed by his sorry ass. I had to leave because I got tired of the Fuckers acting like the pastor was the best and they worshipped him...He thought he was GOD. I was finish when he told me he was not coming to get me from HELL if I sinned again.... No one ever talked about his ex-wife and why she left him...I bet she found him with another man!

Guys, isn't it ironic, that throughout the bible religion, gawd aka supreme being always send these wonderful men to represent it? You know the ones that don’t mind and love the plundering and gaming in blood baths and raping the virgin girls.

Reminds of that ahhhh, yes, that special story in Gen. Mr. Supreme Being made sure it wasn’t going to be bored ever again…shooks; sitting around for all eternity without meaningful entertainment is not a joke!! All it to had to work with were those pitiful harping from those angelic beings - that made the supreme being pull its eternal hair roots out!! So what did the supreme do? Just the way it liked -all the toppings – it set us up – for eternal entertainment.

So throughout time, gawd aka supreme being enjoyed looking on as his “representatives” (such as anonymous pastor) carried out its will. I think the pastor represented the supreme being quiet well don’t you think? Hey, they don’t do such a good job at it but who cares - it doesn’t matter how many are trampled on in the process… molested, raped – as long as supreme being gets its fix who gives a shit.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal south2003!

But!!! We must never question the will of God! We must always believe that if a preacher claims that he is called by God, then we must never question him or God, to question a preacher, is to question God also, a very deadly mistake.

We must never question miracles and dreams and visions, because these are from the voice of God, trying to communicate with us.

His ways are not our ways!

We must never question our beliefs, nor other beliefs, because without beliefs we have nothing to live for.

We must never question a child of God, anyone that claims to be a christian, we must never question, because who are we to judge? Let the first one without sin, cast the first stone!

God will be the final judge, no matter how many children or babies are raped by pastors, this we cannot judge, for we are nothing beside God.

If a pastor embezzels monies, who are we to judge? We have no right to judge anyone, this is left for God.

Preachers are God's gift to humanity, without preachers who would we have to instill havoc amongst the citizens of the community?

All Preachers are worthy and sacred, God does not just call a few and some are bad and some are good, NO, God calls all preachers, God cannot make a mistake, he's perfect, let us not forget that.

God is in control here, he knows just what he's doing, God is infallable, perfect, a just God, a and loving and an equal oportunity God.

God is not a respector of persons, he treats all people equally, and fairly, and God cannot do wrong, nor can anyone claiming to represent this all loving wonderful God, neither can they do wrong either.

But Atheists, ohhh it's just terrible, they hate God, they rebel against God. At the end of time, just about any time now, God will stand up against the Atheists and it will be a blood bath, rivers will flow with the blood of Atheists, and plagues and diseases will fester their skin and boils and their flesh will drop off of their bones, and locusts will eat their eyes out of the socket, and frogs will piss in their ears and huge rats will knawl on their bones and people will beg to be put to death, beg and plead for the mountains to fall down upon them, but death will flee them and they will seek to the ends of the Earth to escape this horrible torment, and beg God to send them into the burning lake of fire for comfort, but God will deny them, saying just as you've denied me on Earth, so shall I deny you, now go your way, away from me that you may be tortured all of your days and nights.

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things shall be bestowed upon you, forever and ever amen!

Please click on my name for prayer and consultation, thanks be unto you for ever.

I WAS A MEMBER OF HIS CHURCH FOR FIVE YEARS, AND I KNOW EVERY LAST ONE OF THE VICTIMS. I KNOW WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT THAT HE IS GUILTY. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE NOW CONFUSED, AND FIND IT EXTREMELY HARD TO ATTEND CHURCH NOW. i KNOW IT WAS NOT GOD WHO DID THIS , BUT IT STILL MAKES YOU LEARY OF EVERYONE. BESIDES IF YOU CAN'T TRUST YOUR PASTOR TO COUNSEL YOU THEN WHO CAN YOU TRUST ?
THE LUSTICE SYSTEM BETTER NOT FAIL US THIS TIME. IF IT DOES I REALLY FEAR FOR THE MAN. AS FAR AS THE CONGREGATION GOES IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE CHILDREN THEN THEY ARE JUST AS GUILTY AS THE PASTOR IS.
BESIDES, WHAT WOULD ANYONE HAVE TO GAIN FROM THIS BUT TOTAL HURT, AND HUMILATION. I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR HIM WHATSOEVER !!!!!!

I am on hear because I have been wanting to get some things off my chest concerning Pastor Griffith and Gary. (that's how I know them). I know for a fact that thoses teenagers are not lying. I attended his church when he was in a basement of a man's house. I stopped when Pastor Griffith and his wife seperated. A lot of people did. However he still had h "his followers" and the church continued to grow. I used to get counseling form himas a teenager. He never touched me, but he did make comments and ask me to describe certain situations that I was going through in depth. My sibling was also close to Gary, the deacon alleged. My dad, however made sure he did not get too close because he was a little leary about him. My parents are extremely spiritual and once they fonud out all the stuff that was going on (Especially between Gary and Gerald) we left the church. Not only for that, but they way he treated his wife. No one ever talks about how he treated her. It's been told that Gary would sometimes sleep over their house beacuse he was up all night with Griffith. When I first heard about the story. It didn't shock me. It just proved the suspision my parents had almost 6-7 years ago. To the person that said that the church is a cult. They are right!!! He tells you that there are no other churches out there and if you leave you will die or will be cursed for not supporting him. I know a lot of members that go there, and I pray that they will open there eyes. This is not an act to support. The only support should be to the children...young adults!!!

I was a member of this church for a period of time, but left because I gradually began to notice the subtle worship of the man instead of God. Even though he would say that Jesus gets the glory, I observed how he would bask in the glory first before giving it to Christ. Anyway, a couple of things have bothered me since his arrest for child molestation. First of all, I believe for a fact that he is a homosexual since his name has been linked to this for a long time. (Many people saying the same thing about you over a period of time, 99.99% ot the time it is true). I had also heard from several sources that his wife left him because she caught him in bed with another man. Secondly, I am amazed that so many people still refuse to believe that he is a homosexual, far more to believe the accusations that are against him. He has at least three or four people living in his house on a permanent basis and it is unbelievable that non of them are aware of the homosexual activities that takes place right under their noses. Even some people who have claimed to know him from a youth growing up find it hard to believe this about him. Since homosexuality is something that develops early in life, and also a lifestyle that is very hard to keep under cover for any length of time, (nobody is that good!) I believe that deep down they all know but refuse to acknowlege it, because in so doing, they will also have to believe the accusations against him, something which they all, including the members of the church, are not willing to accept. One can only wait and see how long they are all willing to ride the "church thing" out. In my opinion, they are all guilty as he is by perpetrating a lie for all these years that has shaken the faith of so many good christian people whose only "crime" is to believe in their God and what He can do for them. I think they should all be placed in the cell next to him when he is tried and convicted.

so... about those church folk who remained at rcf... they have children, right?? and they're not in the least bit concerned for the welfare of their kids?? oh that's right-- they're brainwashed. they think that their kids are safe because that man could never do wrong. he's the MAN OF GOD, right?? sitting on the left hand of jesus in glory. any god-fearing person would step back and assess the situation. look at the worship of the man, look at the secrecy and lies, look at the way he works. come on people... think for yourselves! he didn't want you to know how old he was, didn't want you to know his middle name, didn't want you to know where he lived... made a big deal out of unimportant stuff anyway. guess what, though, it's out now. how do you feel? ARE YOU OFFENDED?!?! how do you really feel when he "profi-lies" (prophesies) to you things that you know aren't true, or when he makes you feel like crap and embarrasses you in front of the congregation when you don't do what he says? how do you feel when he doesn't want the young people to even talk to each other, and doesn't encourage wives in the church to tend to their husbands-- when he wants them in the building at all times while their homes are falling apart?? can't you see the work of the enemy in his altar call for "who wants a divorce," and prays over the ladies who say yes??
so, we mustn't get married, mustn't have children, mustn't look after our homes and families, but must spend every waking hour at his service, to do WHATEVER he wants; and if we don't do it, we'll get the lovely prophecy on sunday about how we've been disobedient and that the lord would deal with us.
they make the lord sound like he's confused. "and if you're disobedient, i the lord will deal with you. i will not tell you what i will do to you... pause... but i will cut you off." way to go, idiots. you made it look like the almighty changed his mind. we all know he doesn't do that. bloody morons!!!!!

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. I do not know if all these accusations are true but i will not be the judge, we ought always to pray for all men, for the men of God face greater temptations that the average man, to whom much is given much is required. Let God condemn if condemnation is required, let Him judge is judgement is required. Let us forgive, pray and do as the bible says, "seek first the kingdom of Heaven". That should be our main focus, for all men have sinned and fallen short of God's Glory. And to those of you who left church because of some sought of disappointment, on the last day that will be no excuse. Seek the Lord and he will guide you to a good gospel preaching Church where he wants you to serve and worship Him

Another anonymous coward/christian troll.

How do you know that men of god face greater temptations? I say you made it up as there is no way you could know what another human is really going thru. They could say they are faced with more temptations than the rest of humanity but that doesn't make it true.

Anony did you ever think for one second that perhaps the reason that some here don't believe in the bible god is because we DID seek him? You cannot find what isn't there.

So stop with the lame ass oft heard xtian jibberish and come up with evidence that what you believe is real. How can you expect us to take you seriously when you say that there is a "devil" and a "god" but give us no evidence for either?

Which makes its behaviour indistinguishable from the behaviour of the Biblical god.

Then you'd make a lousy candidate for jury duty.

...for the men of God face greater temptations that the average man...

Bullshit. I repeat, complete and utter bullshit. "Men of God" just whine about their "temptations" more, thereby installing them as primary stimuli in their brains and increasing the likelihood of obsession and subsequent acting-out.
